wife got cut-off-and-run by garbage truckthe Minister for War and Finance got cut off by a garbo yesterday.
location: swanston st, melbourne CBD when: 8.15am (or so) Tue 22 jan how: she was riding (northbound, i assume) when garbo pulled out from stationary position, parked against the kerb, into the lane - to occupy the same position of the road that she was shortly due to occupy. this collision was averted by the Minister swerving to the right, and for a very short period of time doing her best impression of a Route 5 tram before toppling over and leaving a significant amount of skin from her right elbow on the road. she tells me the garbo appeared to slow momentarily, possibly to check out his handiwork, before accelerating off into the distance. i'd like to thank those who stopped to assist her, including at least one cyclist. if anyone witnessed it though, could you get in touch with me?
Re: wife got cut-off-and-run by garbage truckthat stinks

Re: wife got cut-off-and-run by garbage truckTram tracks suck. I'm so scared of getting stuck in them I do an overkill to turn over them. Whenever I see mountain bike tyres cruise over them like they're not there I get jealous.
I hope she gets better soon.
Re: wife got cut-off-and-run by garbage truckSorry to hear this and glad your partner is okay. I hope you get sufficient evidence to take it up the firm/council at least if not the Police.

Re: wife got cut-off-and-run by garbage truck
thanks andrew. however without a witness, i don't think we'll bother. would consider if someone saw it and would be prepared to act as a witness, as it was certainly poor and even possibly deliberately poor driving. fyi a number of people inc. cyclists did witness it, but she was too preoccupied to grab anyone's details.
Re: wife got cut-off-and-run by garbage truckPut out a notice in the local paper or something like that?
Hope she remains okay. Terrible that the truck just continued on. Trek Madone 4.5, Giant TCR Advanced SL3 ISP Di2 (the green machine)
Re: wife got cut-off-and-run by garbage truckThat sucks Jules, I'm glad your GLW is (almost) OK.
I don't suppose that there's any chance of CCTV footage being obtained? Shaun ...whatever the road rules, self-preservation is the absolute priority for a cyclist when mixing it with motorised traffic.

Re: wife got cut-off-and-run by garbage trucka council truck? Surely they would know what routes their drivers take and what times (approx) they're at a certain location?

Re: wife got cut-off-and-run by garbage truck
a lot of professional driver vehicles have gps tracking systems ... moreso that their bosses can see if they are speeding or goofing off as opposed to assisting the enquiries from a steam rolled cyclist at the hands of one of their drivers. Garbage trucks tend to take a very predictable route (I can almost set my watch to when a particular local garbage truck is parked along side Mcdonalds so the driver can rush in and grab a bite). I wouldn't be surprised if the council passes the buck if you try to find out which way garbage trucks are assigned to go. If you want to super sleuth, you could probably turn up around the same place next week to find out the details - They leave a path of empty wheelibins so it shouldn't be too hard to track down GO!! Run!!! GAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!

100% worth doing that. Any employer should be quite concerned about these allegations and would be delinquent if they did not act on it. Get it on his record - never can tell if you're the first or n th complaint they've had about him. Hope the wife is feeling better and gets over the shock of it ok too. Re: wife got cut-off-and-run by garbage truck+1 for letting council know! Once they have a report it is on their records and you can refer to it down the track if there are further issues - hopefully not.
Not to in any way excuse the driver, but was it a left hand drive truck?
Re: wife got cut-off-and-run by garbage truckGarbage trucks up here in Brisbane have video in & outside the truck, not sure if the same in Melbourne, but its a thought...
Re: wife got cut-off-and-run by garbage truckA case can be made to said minister to "tool up" with a Contour &/or GoPro
