I, for one, reckon they're doing a fairly good job of it. The coverage is more than adequate and they are devoting a reasonable amount of air-time on the live portion on Gem, then the highlights on 9 later in the evening.

SBS is no better for ad breaks, possibly worse

I've had it on live in the background whilst working. Haven't missed any key moments due to ads.

the on-screen data isn't as good as the ASO but it'll do.

and having robbie in the commentary box has been ace, frankly. almost makes up for phil & paul's tedious blather.

Do you work for Channel 9 ?

SBS do not have ad breaks every 7 - 9 minutes.....never start their broadcasts late.....

Oh look, tonight's highlights program is late (again).....So that's three for three so far !

Hopeless.......

I wouldn't need to be if Channel 9 had a reasonable and timely tv schedule ;-)

Highlights at 11pm and it will be late again......grrrr....

I agree I think the programming of the highlights is terrible.

However I am certain as I have stated before the production is exactly the same as other years and I would be very surprised if the ad breaks were any more than SBS.

yeah, shame on those sponsors/advertisers who pay for the coverage to happen on FTA TV

recorded it today and just finished watching it,from a newbie's point of view, seemed pretty good, nothing to complain about.i recognised that pommy fella's commentary.
loved the locals getting right into it at towards the last 5 k's,reminded me of euro rally fans. :)

Again watching foxtel and the guide says coverage starts at 11.00 but its not on. Switch to FTA and coverage is only listed from 11.40 so will not bother. How much have they spent on coverage and cannot bother to proofread program guides?

I have tried to be positive about the coverage on Channel 9 however today it was moved back with two episodes of an American Sitcom which are probably reruns.

Why delay exclusive rights content and put it after reruns?
I assume that it is financially more valuable - the reruns still get a bigger audience or a certain type of audience which brings in higher advertising revenues - and perhaps the cycling coverage advertising slots are cheaper because the audience (us) is narrower and smaller.

The TDU is probably the biggest local cycling event and there is a chance to raise the profile though needs the risky move of a time slot when more people are watching - if Channel 9 did this then on the one hand they could annoy some people, but could easily defend themself as the Wide World of Sports station where they are presenting different sports, some people like this, others like that.

I posted on the Wide World of Sports facebook page with a polite question asking about the schedualing however they must have deleted it which isn't a very modern approach to looking after the community.

Same. Be a good replacement for the bloke on sbs.

Re the nine ring in. Whenever I see that meathead or any other non cycling chump wheeled out it always reminds me of the clueless commentator in the movie Best in show.

To be honest though even the greatest Coverage in the world of international sport is not gonna change the fact it's not the most compelling bike race in the world. The course is pretty limited .

Why bother advertisng a start time and not sticking to it?

I can understand it running a little late if it was following some live broadcast which ran a little later than expected, but after 2 repeats of "2 broke girls"! come on

Not sure about the delayed coverage but the direct telecast satisfied me
