Australia Day Retro RideCalling all Brisbanites!
Retro Riverloop Raturday is inviting all and sundry to drag out your retro bike for a Riverloop with us in the morning. There is always something interesting to look at. We've had Alan's, Cinelli's, Bianchi's, Raleigh's, Repco's, Gitane's, Colnago's, Gefsco's, Berretto's, Moser's - you name it! No snobbery - if it's old-timey, you're welcome! 32km of beautiful scenery following the Brisbane River from West End, through to Toowong, Indooroopilly, Graceville, Teneriffe, Yeronga, Fairfield, Dutton Park, and back to West End for coffee and a chinwag. Pace is about 25-28km/h. Bonus points for aussie flags and jerseys. Bring your camera if you want to take some pics of beautiful bikes. 6am outside Melbourne Hotel, Browning St, West End. internet experts: ruining bikes since '10 | http://www.redbubble.com/people/munga

Re: Australia Day Retro Rideyou can bring your hydroformed alloy cannondale if that's all you've got.
i've run brifters on many 70's / 80's bikes, but i still call them retro. internet experts: ruining bikes since '10 | http://www.redbubble.com/people/munga
Re: Australia Day Retro RideSounds good! Seeing that brifters are allowed I'll bring out the Gazelle.
Oh, I am assuming it is on the Saturday and not the public holiday on Monday....

Raturday it is Wazza
Re: Australia Day Retro RideI'm in. Of course I'm in. Perhaps even on something Australian made!
I ride 25s on the basis that they divide more easily into 100 than 23s.
Re: Australia Day Retro Ridecool banana's, dan.

Re: Australia Day Retro Ride
I'll be packing a few of those, too... I ride 25s on the basis that they divide more easily into 100 than 23s.
Re: Australia Day Retro RideI'm riding the all-Australian Vertex Guy Leech, can't get much more aussie than that, a signature series bike named after an Iron Man (go figure what Pacific Brands were thinking).
Re: Australia Day Retro Ridei'd like to have my australian-built repco vertex ready to ride, but this outcome is unlikely.

Re: Australia Day Retro RideIf I can find some pedels there's a good chance i'll come along. First Saturday off in a while.
Re: Australia Day Retro RideMore rain, fewer joggers.
I ride 25s on the basis that they divide more easily into 100 than 23s.
Re: Australia Day Retro RideI'm there, rain, hail, snow, sleet, wind.
Anybody else wants to join me is more than welcome. Hopefully the Aussie flag won't get caught in the rear wheel.
Re: Australia Day Retro RideWell, it was me, myself & I this morning.
The flag got tangled in the rear brake caliper & now looks like it's been through a battle zone (didn't slow the bike at all). Saw maybe 15 bikes out on the riverloop, passed only 2 bikes going the same way, nobody passed me, either I was really on the pipe (yeah right) or there wasn't anybody braving the weather god's. A few showers, the wind coming back along the river was the only difficult bit. The weather god's held off till lunchtime (I know as I just got back from a gentle morning/afternoon ride). I go on holidays on Friday, no riding a bike for 2 weeks (unless I buy something in Sydney & just have to try it out). One bike out, 1 bike back, terrific Aussie day ride, thanks to all those who bothered to brave the weather with me.
Re: Australia Day Retro RideBl**dy rough up here on the "Sunny Coast".
Well Done on getting out there!
Re: Australia Day Retro RideWell I was out by myself on a retro ride in the hills behind Wollongong this morning too, so were alone in spirit.
No flag though, and I can't say I would have been out if it was raining either. It was my first ride on an old gazelle I picked up recently, and I found out the hard way that it was NOT geared for hills at all.
Re: Australia Day Retro RidePictures? Why no pictures? I like pictures!!
Re: Australia Day Retro Ride
Not exactly a picture, but I hope this suffices- http://youtu.be/GQ8U2LZpUPE
Re: Australia Day Retro RideIf it's any consolation I hit the road mid morning up here in Stanthorpe and still managed to get soaking wet and blown all over the place. Considering the conditions it was a good ride and I'm glad I got out there. Now, will I do it tomorrow?
