Best mirror for road bike?

Postby ozzymac » Fri Jun 24, 2011 1:35 pm

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations on a suitable mirror to use on a road bike?

I bought the Blackburn helmet mirror, but as soon as I saw it in the flesh so to speak I didn't think it would work real well, the attaching arm is to skinny so it suffers from a lot of vibrations out on our not so smooth country roads.

Cheers

Hi

For "around town riding" I am happy with my Zefal Spy Mirrors (I have three of them fitted).

Hi,
I did actually do a search before posting, but it seems Tapatalk doesn't do searches to well. Thus why I thought I would ask the question.

Thanks for the useful suggestion though...........

Good looking mirror!

Is that the only place that sells them?

Did a bit of a google search and couldn't find anywhere else.

Postage is a bit ordinary from them.

$12 for ordinary mail.

Or $50 for fedex yes sure.

Cheers

Postage has gone up a bit since my last one :(
I've seen copies way cheaper but they had plastic mirrors. This is hand ground optical glass.
You'll forget the price five minutes into the first ride. 8)
An assistant is needed to get the install just so, fiddly but the results justify.

How tall are you Mulger, and what standard size equivalent frame? I've heard of guys whacking their knees on these.

About 177 tall with short legs.
My commuter is a 54 compact, my roadie is a 52 trad frame.
I have banged a knee a couple of times but I've been honking bl00dy hard on the bars at the time. No damage to self or mirror.

Hi,
After nearly buying another type of mirror the other day when ordering some other things, I decided to give this one a try instead. So just ordered one tonight. I checked my knee distance and it seems ok.

Thanks for the info, will post later how it goes.

Cheers

Cheers Ozzy, nice to know someone listens

In the unlikely event that you find you don't like it, PM me. We should be able to come to a mutually satisfactory arrangement.

Best mirror for road bike?

Postby ozzymac » Wed Jul 13, 2011 11:46 am

Hi,
Well the Italian mirror turned up today. Looks to be well made etc, one surprising point is that I thought it just slipped inside the end of the bars but you actually have to unwrap some bar tape and tape this in the rewrap the bar tape. Other than that the shipping and processing was ok.

Now just need to wait for my bike to be finished getting a service from a local mechanic we found instead of taking it back to the crappy bikeshop I bought it from.

Will post once I install the mirror and try it.

Cheers

Cheers Ozzy, yeah they's a bugger to fit but well worth the effort.

My offer still stands if you don't like it :)

I see there are at least 2 variations of this kind of mirror?

The glass Italian one and a plastic one that is bigger and easier to fit. Anyone got any thoughts on a comparison? I prefer the quality options but I don't like fiddly fitting!

The IRBM has glass - the optics are way better. And it's less obtrusive.

Twenty bucks, plus postage (whatever that is), or pick up from Brisbane CBD.

Until I decide on the position of my bars I'm going to wait to get the Italian mirror.
For now I have an old Zefal Spy mirror that sits quite well at the end of the drops...
