Malvern Star - Classic Original - Help to identify please

G'day all.

I recently inherited an old Malvern Star bike, in what appears to be original condition, although a bit rusty!
I am wanting to get some help in identifying it, the value of it, cleaning it up, and then what to do with it... ?

The paint seem original, with some funny colouring on the front forks, but the frame still looks like it has the decals on it.

I can't seem to read the serial number (3A327)? ,appears to be a 2-Star.. how would you recommend I clean it best? Soak in WD40 and scrub off?

Looks like its worth preserving, any two star without damage would surly qualify. I like the Sturmey Archer 3 x speed, not sure if they were original, but they are cool.

Looks to be a few different bits and bobs from across a few different decades there; First glaring example to me are the front & rear brake calipers. Ostensibly, I don't think the frame is anything especially rare or valuable; But that said, as it is the bike has a tonne of character. It certainly looked as if it was well used & cared for by a previous owner.

+1 to just cleaning it up as much as possible, get it rideable and otherwise keeping "as found". Biggest question for me would be the state of the rims and how to get it safely rolling again.

Hrmmrmrgmgm.... Whilst I agree, Scot... I do wonder about the sticky "how to post pics" and how many people it actually stops saying "I don't know how to post pics" even when they are beyond their first 10 posts?

The one who had difficulty posting images this morning I helped out. They had been a member for 18 months, but only 15 posts. I mainly helped out so Bicyclepassion wouldn't have to try to find the images.
Teeby had already listed the bike for sale on ebay, but cancelled the listing at 8.59am on Wed 23 Jan, then joined BNA at 11.33am on Wed and was on here after info on the MS 12 minutes later.

Sorry Scot, Wasn't meant as a dig at you... wasn't even aware of the pic assisting occasion you refer to. Was generally just making a comment on what portion of people read the sticky instructions anyway.

Teeby, whilst the 2 Star is your bike to do whatever you want with, some regular contributors to the forums find it a little tiring when people pop up and ask about a bikes "worth" then probably disappear, contributing nothing more to the forum. Had you had some intention to keep and restore the bike yourself I think a lot more of us would be glad to help with questions. Passion vs. Profit I guess.

Just makes me think twice about responding to such queries, that's all.

And I wouldn't get too excited about the number of watchers who appear on an ebay item. I think you'll find a lot of them are either just merely curious (like yourself) what the item will go for as they have something similar to sell. I myself watch quite a few items just out of curiosity with no intention of bidding. "Watching" is more like a bookmark rather than an intent to bid.

Ok this thread has run it's course, time to apply the padlock before it degenerates further.

Couple of points to keep in mind:
If you believe a thread and/or post has breached the forum rules the easiest and simplest thing to do is report the post (little triangle with the exclamation mark) and the moderators will deal with it. If you are going to post and point out that a breach of the rules may have occurred, be mindful of how you do it. The internets is a wonderful place, but the challenge of the written word is intonation often cannot be conveyed clearly. Hence why its easier to just hit the report button.

There is nothing stopping new members from asking about their bikes regardless of whether they want to restore it or put it on eBay. Linking ebay auctions is against the forum rules (particularly in the marketplace unless the item hasnt sold) but this hasnt occured (for those who dont know the site automatically inserts an inline link when you type eBay).

Sure it may be considered bad manners to some to come in and use the wisdom of our more knowledgable members as market research, but at the end of the day its up to you to decide whether you wish to provide info or not, it isnt against the forum rules to ask.
