Most bike carriers seem to be either 1 1/4" or 2"( 32mm or 50mm)
Are there any bike carriers out there that are 40mm size?

Re: Tow hitch bike carrier 40mmThe other (perhaps better) option is to get a rack which attaches to the ball instead of the receiver.

Re: Tow hitch bike carrier 40mmI got a new towbar for my forester so it would have the same hitch as our other car. Although a cheaper option is probably to get a ball mount one.

Re: Tow hitch bike carrier 40mmThanks for the feedback.
I am looking at the Thule vertex. It comes with a 40mm adapter. http://www.thule.com.au/details.php?p_i ... ilt_4_Bike I was hoping that maybe there was a rack out there that didn't need a adapter to make it fit the 40mm hitch. It's just another point for movement and wear/extra place for things to go potentially to go wrong.. Cheers
Re: Tow hitch bike carrier 40mm
Uppo, we manufacture bicycle carriers for the Subaru that has a dedicated 40mm attachment that is strong and tough. ![]() The pivot base in the image below is almost identical to the 40mm version (that shown is a special 51mm tube for heavy duty tow bars). ![]() The carrier itself pivots down to give free access to the rear of the Forester without having to unload the bikes. It's pretty easy. ![]() The other thing that is great on this vehicle is because the carrier allows for two bicycles to sit exactly side by side with no need to stagger to the left and right, the total width of the loaded carrier is no wider than the length of the longest bicycle. and The bicycle on the back of this vehicle is a 6" travel all mountain bicycle that has a fairly slack head angle and long wheelbase. As you can see, the forester is wider than the bike. With the departure angle well in excess than that of the vehicle, it means than nothing is going to drag or hit bottom, side or top. In other words, if the car gets through, the bicycles will as well and it makes for a much more relaxed trip. Hope this helps and of course happy to help forum members.
