GT TempestGot given an old GT Tempest from my brother;it's been sitting in his shed for years. It's a 7005 alu frame with stx fr/rear mechs, stx rc brakes (canti) and rock shox indy s front forks. The decals (what's left of them) are yellow purple and black and I'd like to know what year it is. Any assistance would be much appreciated.
Re: GT TempestGT has back catalogues in their bike archive that goes back to 2009, if that helps... http://www.gtbicycles.com/aus/bike-archive
Re: GT TempestThanks for the reply Howzat but I think this bike is somewhere in the 90's ;It's been in my brothers shed for at least 10 years!
Re: GT TempestRock Shox Indy S came out around 1998, but I think the GT Tempest around that time normally came with a Cromolly fork.
Re: GT TempestShimano parts have manufacting dates stamped on them.
Date Codes these were the first ones to come up on Google no idea if they are the correct ones. Also stems, bars seat posts etc can have dates on them. A picture helps
Re: GT TempestCheck out the following:
http://www.mtb-kataloge.de/html/gt.html Plenty of 90's catalogues, but I would say approx 97 to 98... GT obsession......
Re: GT TempestThanks everyone for your input. The frame and forks are definitely 98 but the original forks were cro mo. It's in a bit of an uncared for state but every thing works ok.I'm going to clean it up and get into some open trail riding; Should be interesting as I've only been a roadie up until now.
Re: GT TempestThe GT Tempest was one of my favourite bikes though mine unfortunately got nicked.
I liked the geometry, could have been the triple triangle that did it for me. Good forks will really help the ride. BNA Feature: E-Bike Buyers Guide App on Now iTunes
Re: GT Tempest
Get your serial number and try here. http://forums.mtbr.com/gt/ and http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewforum.php?f=6 GT serial numbers usually have a combination of the year and a letter for the model or the factory it was made at plus production number. Some seem to be easier to decode than others. GTX99139 - from a 99 Xizang * GT Xizang * Year 99 * Number 139 H2K1 6029 - from a 93 Timberline * H=Taiwan-Hodaka plant * 2=Probably made in 92 * K=11th Month-November * Number 6029 1 is a lonely number, NFI what is signifies here, maybe it is number 16 029?
