Yes, Minister! A Submission to the Commonwealth

Go! Alliance has developed a submission to the Commonwealth's draft report "Walking, Riding and Access to Public Transport" in the form of a petition is now live and ready for you to read and hopefully support by adding your name. This does not preclude you or your group from providing an independent submission to address other or more specific issues not covered here.

We have been given the tick of support from NSW's BIKESydney and Leichhardt BUG and hope to add the names of more groups from all across Australia right here as they let me know.

Thanks for your support and kind words, I am definitely still kicking around and using Go! Alliance as my way of still doing something useful for cycling and other transport modes. On BNA we are looking forward to better understanding Go! Alliance as it is a broad reaching initiative. The basics are that Go! Alliance advocates smart transport - and often bikes are smart and can be better integrated into our infrastructure and create advantages on many levels.

We have now ticked over 400 supporters! We are now in uncharted territory having exceeded our last campaign by a fair margin with a week yet to go.

The folks at communityrun have been so impressed by the campaign that they have been featuring it on their front page!

Let's keep it going and bring others on board who may not cycle but do believe better options for travel and mobility must be at the centre of transport policy and expenditure. This is their chance to also be heard also.

You may recall the recent Go! Alliance petition "Yes, Minister! It's Time for Change in Transport Priorities"...

Wow! Well, thanks to many of you we made a real impact that has been recognised by the (Yes) Minister in a speech last week and he has committed to take on the main message of our petition and make changes that will see improvements made whenever the Commonwealth funds projects.

Minister Albanese recognised "Almost half the submissions have come from private individuals — including one petition with two thousand signatures!" and announced "a 'positive provisioning' policy for federally funded projects. In making the announcement Minister Albanese said, 'This will mean that federally funded urban transport infrastructure projects must consider whether provision has been made for appropriate cycling and walking paths.' It means to get federal money to build infrastructure states must evaluate walking and cycling infrastructure as part of the project."


"It puts the emphasis on states to ensure that active travel options are considered at the time of design of projects and not as an afterthought and retrofitting which produces higher costs and often less suitable outcomes."

That's a great outcome. I hope you can get them to look at Boris's vision for London too -that has a lot of great points in it as was said above.
