Pumping up tyre of pram / toddler bicycle

Postby robbiepapenfus » Thu Jan 31, 2013 11:54 am

Hi guys,

Silly question..

I bought myself a Bontrager foot pump, which works great for my bicycle BUT its virtually impossible to pump up a pram or toddler bicycle wheel and there is not enough space (between the spokes and rim)to insert the tyre valve AND lock it.

Do I need to buy another pump for the pram / toddler bicycle or can I get some sort of extension?

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Robbie

Do you need to lock it? I usually just hold the head on the valve stem with one hand and pump with the other. You're only putting in about 20 psi.

Use your Lezyne pump. What, you haven't got a Lezyne?

Go for taller, narrower wheels with 19mm tyres and a lower spoke count. Better aero and lower rolling resistance. Don't forget to go 110-120psi in the tyres. :D

Maybe a carbon 4 spoke wheel would be a better option if valve head clearance in an issue...

Buy one and wonder why you didn't do it earlier. I like it so much, I'm going to buy the company.

on the pram, replace the tubes with ones that have angled valve stems.
on the kids bike I use a lezyne pump as it is the only one that can get into the tiny space. I might try the same angled valve stem on the kids bike as it makes it much easier!

$2 hand pump from the $2 shop. The old style where the tartan printed tube goes into the handle. I've had the same problem with (a) a balance bike, (b) a bmx wheel with a disc on it (yes, 'twas totally aero) and (c) a bmx wheel with about a thousand spokes in it.
