Help choosing road shoes

Postby reeper250 » Tue Jan 15, 2013 2:17 pm

My Shimano road shoes are dying sadly so I am in need of some new road shoes.
These are the shoes I have in mind:

Suplest S1 - Carbon Velcro 2010 = $142
Bont Cervelo Test Team CTT-3 = $120
Shimano SH-R191 = $124

Thanks

^^^^^^ probably far out of op's price range seeing as he (or she) posted shoes from 100 to 150 dollars

I'm not sure what shoes they are but they look mighty expensive... I want to spend a maximum of $150

That is a great price on the SH-R191. Shimano shoes are a safe bet

Sidi's are great shoes!
Expensive but well worth it. They do fit in your price range (CLICK HERE Most important thing is how they fit, I would simply advice to try on and buy the ones you like. Helmet and shoes are very personal.

Agree totally. I wear DMT shoes and found Sidi's don't fit my feet. Mr Moo was hoping they didn't fit him when he tried them but they were like slippers so he had to buy them...apparently!!

Thank you all for your replies
My current Shimano R132's are getting old and very worn, also my dog chewed the straps... The thing I don't like about them is the straps feel as though they are putting pressure on my feet in certain spots if that makes sense?
I am liking the look of the Bont straps and how they pull the foot back into the shoe as well as the large surface area of the straps. They are also heat moldable which is a nice extra.
I need a size 42.5 EU but have noticed that not that many shoes seem to come in half sizes.
The Suplest S1's are now $120 at Chain Reaction and those SIDI Genius Pro 5's don't have a carbon sole, only nylon which seems strange considering the price.

You might wanna consider topping up a little for Specialized Pro Road Shoes. Check them out on ebay.

I'm not sure if you've tried the Bont or Supplest on before, but if not, I'd stick with Shimano. You know your sizing with them and like the shoe, why try something you may not like?

I have 2 pairs of Bont's, my ones fit great but the sizing of Bont shoes is totally different to every other shoe on the market. I wouldn't buy a Bont shoe online without first going to the Bont website & doing the measurements then buying maybe 1 size larger. There seems to be countless reports out there of people buying Bont shoes & them not fitting, this appears to be a problem, once you know your correct Bont size they are like not wearing shoes at all.

Skull, how did you find the Bont sizing? True to their size guide?
