Congratulations to all the ACF club members, some awesome efforts by all all of you.
I'm a 62 year old who had had rarely ridden in over 15 years. Got back on the bike around Christmas to try and keep up with my 9 year old Grandson, that didn't work out lol, in fact day one and 10k left me feeling shattered. However coincidentally I discovered Strava just before the new year and decided the challenge was a great motivational tool.
Oncw I got started and had a look around i decided to try and stay in the top 50 of the ACF club but soon dropped to around 90, kept riding and upped the mileage and frequency and got to around 40th place, then the big wet set in here on the Gold Coast and I couldn't ride for four days and watched my name drop down the list to around 60. Tried to ride on the 30th but the wind was so strong I was being pushed across the road into the traffic, still managed 30k before sanity prevailed and I went home.
The 31st was a good day, light wind and cool so I set off to try and do 60k, felt good and kept going until 100k was within reach, managed to get there (102.3k) I am stoked with reaching that milestone, after so long off the bike I never thought I would reach anywhere near that.
Finished up in ACF club position 48 with 600 miles, overall 6502, gotta be happy with that
Now I have the base down I aim to back off the mileage and attempt to get the speed up and somehow get some climbing ability into the legs, climbs are killing me plus I was never much of a climber back in the day to start with lol.
Hopefully I can push on until the next January challenge where my goal will be 2500k.
Thanks to everyone here, you don't realise it but you people have been my inspiration, I couldn't have done any of this without you.
