16t Freewheel Recommendation

Hi there,

I'm on my second set of ACS 16t freewheel on my Felt SS and it's time to replace it again due to bearing getting loose and shaky.. I've only covered about 1000km.
Current rig is Felt SS with 50t / 16t.

Just after a durable freewheel. Dictas don't seem to last long and so as the ACS. Haven't tried shimano's. Also, what's your take on White industries freewheel? Seems pretty costly for a freewheel..

I'll be hitting sydney to jamberoo with my SS in the next couple of weeks so trying to get the bike in tip top cond.

I'm in the same position as my ACS freewheel is sounding pretty awful. It started getting rough at around the 1000km mark, but dumping a load of gearbox oil in shut it up for a while.

Think the White Industries freewheel is the way to go. The Dicta freewheel I used was as bad (if not worse) than the ACS one on it now. All the WI stuff I've used has been amazingly durable and nice to use.

While the WI freewheel is expensive, it can be serviced so should last longer than the alternatives.

Had a Shimano 17T on a bike for a while. Even used, it felt more robust and quality than a new Dicta or an ACS. Not quite ninja-quiet, but close. If you can stretch the budget, but not quite to WI levels, the Shimano stuff is about half the price and probably 3/4 the quality. People rave on about WI stuff, with sufficient reason, but it can be a pricey up-front proposition.

Can thoroughly recommend the White Industries also have used mine for over 4 months now and it's as good as the very first day.

It is expensive but will last a lifetime plus the freewheel sound is addictive

yeh, was thinking of getting a shimano but base on the reviews, WI are louder, and that's the one i'm after too, (music to my ears) like my campy wheels.. lol Cheers!!

prowheelbuilder.com has whites, postage can be abit x'y ..... current one has done over 7000km, 1 service... i'd be surprised if it's at 30% wear

you might wan't to consider the remover as it's different from a shimano one. Or you can borrow mine for a beer

Go the WI. I got sick of pulling down shimanos to keep the grease up to them and went for 18t trials.
Loud purr yes but the build is much higher quality and have not had to touch it in what would have been three or four pull downs and still feels as good as new.
Will go WI again and while they now have trials in other sizes I guess I would go just the normal Try bikeman...

Another +1 for White Industries freewheel. I paid $100 for mine. Worth every cent.

Hopefully it arrives today, coming from melbourne.

I know you went with a 16t WI .... Which I'm sure you will be super happy with. I run an 18t WI trials version free wheel on my commuter which is even better ! ! ! Live and learn...
