Chamois moving around

Postby shann » Sat Jan 19, 2013 10:26 pm

Hi ladies,

I am having a bit of a problem with the chamois in my 3/4 length nicks and I wonder whether you can offer advice. I find that after I've been riding for 15km or so, my chamois starts sliding forward, so that I've got almost nothing under my bum, and the wider 'bum' bit is half under my girl bits, with the narrow front part sliding upwards and giving me a classy 'man in girls pants' look. This is obviously annoying, uncomfortable, and difficult to adjust while riding. What am I doing wrong? I suspect it's a fit issue, but am unsure whether my nicks are too big or too small.

If your chamois is moving, your knicks are probably too big. They should be very firm so that it stays in place. Bibs help even more.

Get bib and make sure they fit. They are meant to be tight to hold the chamois in place.

My wife reckons Sugoi womens knicks are best - says they're even better than her expensive Assos knicks.

Riding lycra means you need to keep it tight. This way the chamois is tightly held against your skin and any movement will be between the chamois/lycra and the saddle, not against your skin. If the chamois moves, then there are two possibilities. 1) Poor quality chamois/shorts. 2) Too big.

Thanks all - I'm happy that they are too big and I get to buy some new ones. Woo hoo! In your face, stupid scales that say I haven't lost any weight. :D

Probably not your scales Shann. It's quite likely that you haven't lost weight, just moved it to a more efficient location. Congratulations! :D

Err, yeah, so I'm wearing knicks a size smaller and still having the chamois movement issue. Too much chamois cream? Some other magical bike thing that I don't know about?

Try without the chamois cream and see what happens?

What type of chamois cream is everyone using? I am looking at buying my first one to help reduce frontal friction/numbness.

Any suggestions on good ones, or comments on which ones to avoid?

Sure you haven't been repositioning some more weight in the meantime?

Yeah pretty sure about that. To be honest I'm just getting so frustrated; the guys I'm riding with have no problems and just pedal all the time, and I have to keep stopping to readjust. It's not really helping me keep up with them.

+1

Maybe a dfifferent brand might suit your shape better? Speculation of course, I've never ridden in womens knicks.

Is it a bike fit issue? Even if the Knicks are too big, how they are sitting when u first sit on the saddle is how they should be when u get off, unless u have excessive movement on the saddle when pedaling.

Have u been set up professionally? Or by a reputable lbs when purchasing your bike? Are u getting sore anywhere, besides the wandering chamois issue?

I have just moved my saddle back a bit and put it back to level, I'll give that a whirl and see how it goes.
