Shimano TR01 Shoes

Hi all,

The generous person who I bought my giant ocr 1 from on ebay included a pair of shimano tr01 shoes. The bike currently just has the normal pedals with the loopy plastic foot holder thing (technical i know).

What do I need to get to use the shoes ??
I kinda get that you need cleats that screw onto the shoes which clip into the pedals, but how do I know which things to buy i.e does it have to be all shimano gear ??

The pedals you have at the moment are called toe cages.

Do the shoes fit you? Even more lucky if they do. :D

Your shoes are most likely Look cleat compatible (3 holes). Which pretty much all of the road pedals are compatible with. You don't need to get all Shimano Gear.

Just check which cleats your new shoes take, then buy cleats and pedals to suit.

Matty's right about the toe cages, but Munga has shown SPD cleats that are most often used with mtb pedals (yes, I know that lot's of riders use them on both road and off-road bikes).
Check out the online stores for pedals - they typically come with cleats -, so the only thing to check is the hole pattern on your shoes.

Multifit, you can use either and some of the less common versions too.

Cool thanks for everyone's help, so basically I just need to look for a compatible cleat/pedal combo deal. Might check out ebay and see whats around.

Does it make a difference having the clip in pedals as far as improving efficiency ??

Absolutely, you no longer have to spend effort holding your feet on the pedals, so more of your energy can go into turning the cranks.

And you get to fall off when you forget to unclip as you pull up at the stop-lights! :D

yeah thats what I'm afraid of !!

Not a good look in front of a whole lot of cars at a red light.

I'm sure it will encourage learning to balance on the bike really quick.
