Shimano R320 Carbon Shoes Custom molding

Postby ephesiangts » Tue Feb 05, 2013 12:16 pm

Hey guys,

Just picked up my R320's. Great shoe.
Unfortunately don't have a Shoe oven so what is the best* method to custom mold them to my foot?

Cheers.

You need some sort of oven to warm the shoe (easy bit), but then the hard bit is to get the vaccuum pump setup to mould them to your feet.

I picked up one a while ago as part of a package deal that I must get rid of.

Reality is that unless you buy the setup off me , you have to go to a bike shop that sells them and get them to do it. Normally, if you buy them from the LBS, they'll charge bugger all or nothing to do them, but if you bought them elsewhere, they can charge up to $75.

Up to 1:10 is the easy bit, the hard bit is after that.

Depends on how comfortable you are in your current shoe.

99% sure it won't make you faster, but if you are more comfortable, you can more than likely go for longer.

Have you actually tried them ?

I have the shimano ones, for me the heat molding was a HUGE difference... They are a bit worse for wear now after nearly 6 years!!!... But are still so comfortable the thought of having to get new shoes scares me!.

I have riden them 3 times now and they feel better, but still some gaps that could be eliminated if moulded.

How much we talking for your kit?

Otherwise, anybody know a LBS in Sydney area that does it?

I bought the same shoes from BikeBug online, the shop front said they'd do it for $50, but didn't think it would be worth it if I already had custom soles. At this stage I'm not going to do it, but then the shoes feel right as is.

Hi Steve, I presume you are talking to me ?

If so, I'd be looking at $200 + postage for the oven (basic toaster type oven rather than the proper 'Shimano' one, but it's the same) and the Vac pump (the real cost of the setup).

It's pretty heavy.

Let me know if you are interested
