Upgrade Opinions please

Postby Cmm » Tue Feb 05, 2013 9:47 am

Hi I am looking at upgrading the old defy 1 (09) tiagra/sora groupo

I have 2 options

Option 1 upgrade the frame to a tcr/defy advanced then gradually upgrade the rest of the components (hopefully stretching out the effect of upgradeitis over a longer period. Would probably end up with full ultegra (mechanical) mavic wheels etc.

Option 2 upgrade entire bike to a tcr/defy advanced either 0 or 1 so ultegra di2 or ultegra mechanical straight up resulting in more initial outlay but pretty close to what above build would end up being. Although upgradeitis may hit as I am not gradually buying components.

Any opinions and comments are much appreciated.

Thanks

Chris

If the funding is available, then option 2 looks good.

Option 2 will get you there and could possibly end up cheaper as components by themselves are pretty expensive. The wheels on the defy advanced are nice so you wouldn't need to upgrade those for a while either. I just got an adv 1 for $2399.

You could always get an adv 2 for about $2000, its 105. So 200 grams heavier but otherwise identical bike, and more or less identical performance.

Cheaper overall to buy new bike upfront if you can afford.

Coloured Ceramic jockey wheels rarely come standard on any bike. Upgraditis satisfied. Coloured cable ends, crank bolts and stem spacers also make the bike go faster.

Option 2...anything else is too much F....g about in my opinion.
