In the past the higher end models seemed well spec-ed.

The current models are more bike path/fire road instead of "real" off road bikes.

Urrrgh :(

Devaluing the brand yet again. Very disappointing. Agreed, they were excellent bikes.

Shows what happens when the marketing gurus at Avanti declare that the Avanti and Scott brands will have the 'real' MTBs and Malvern Star only the entry level ones.

Where would the Subaru WRX fit if it was a mountain bike?

Put it this way if those Malvern Stars where SUV they would be made by "Great Wall"

Stock WRX think Shimano SLX with a Rock Shox Gold Recon. Alloy Frame maybe Giant Anthem X 29er 1 2013 / New
Club WRX think XT Shimano with a Reba maybe Giant Anthem Advanced X29er 0 2013 / New
WRC WRX think XTR with RS SID or Fox fork. Full Carbon frame. maybe Cannondale Scalpel 29er Carbon Ultimate 2013 / New

I am not sure if I am rating a stock WRX too high :P

$1000 to $1500 will buy you a "proper" hard tail MTB
