40kms 'hard'
I am running an MBTC 'hard' 40km MounTain Bike ride this Saturday (shortest day of the year) via Sherbrooke Forest, SkyHigh, Doongalla Forest and Dandenong Creek. 1:3:1 bitumen/ dirt/ singletrack. Tall Euc forests, fern gullies and great views over Melbournes’ east. A fair bit of climbing in the first half of ride with fast descents after lunch, followed by MTB fun in Doongalla and a ‘cruise’ back to Bayswater
Early start. Train travelers, catch the 7.30am Belgrave train from Flinders Street. You’ll require a ‘5 x Weekend Daily (Zone 1+2)’ ($14.50) or a ‘Daily (Zone 1+2)’ ($10.10) ticket
Car drivers, park at Bayswater RS (Station Street, Melways 64 F4), and catch the 8.24 am Belgrave train. You will require a ‘2 hour Zone 2’ ticket ($2.70). Train arrives in Belgrave at 8.47am
Starting at the ‘Chocolate Sensation’ patisserie 25m from the roundabout in Main Street, we will wait for any late comers on the next train. Ride starts at 9.30am. Lunch atop Mt Dandenong or Kalorama (Café or BYO). Finishing the ride around 3.30pm in Bayswater
BYO off-roadworthy MTB with knobby tyres only (could be slippery in parts), tools, spares, snacks, water etc. No skinny tyres, no slicks and no ‘heavy clunkers’ please! Be prepared for colder weather on the mountain
