Warrawong Wildlife Sanctuary

A community campaign to save the much-loved Warrawong Wildlife Sanctuary at Mylor in the Adelaide Hills, due to close next month, has swung into action.

Warrawong was established by Dr John Wamsley to conserve endangered Australian wildlife. He purchased the first 35 acres, a degraded dairy farm, in 1969, with 50 acres added later. Wamsley eradicated all feral plants and animals from the sanctuary and erected a surrounding fence to preserve the sanctuary's feral free state. Warrawong was opened to the general public in 1985. Warrawong is a haven for more than a 100 species of birds and many threatened native animals, including a thriving population of platypuses.

If you'd like to help you can make your views known by signing the change.org petition, calling on the State Government to act to prevent the closure of the sanctuary, here

It'd be sad to see it go.

Personally, I'd rather see Monarto close and Warrawong thrive, but that's me.

That is a real shame. The wife and I have stayed at Warrawong twice over the years and it is a great place to remind us of what Australia might have been.
