I can see how my cousin's riding mate got killed by the following truck... i didn't appreciate how far you can get thrown out until seeing that.
Far out :O :O :O

Wow that's a shocker. Like TG said, it's hard to imagine how far into the lane you can get thrown, until you see it like that.
If there had been a car following, he'd probably be dead.
Probably worth sending this footage to the Victorian road safety authorities (given the James Cross case). Might give them more ammunition to beef up the penalties a bit.

Depends entirely on how wide you are when you hit. I've heard of some riders virtually ending up on the driver's lap.

Shocking when its that graphic.
I have seen many years ago how far an off balanced rider can end up. On a bunch ride, a rider in the breakdown lane hit an cat eye or similar and was "thrown" across two wide traffic lanes and finally came to a stop on grassed median strip. Had there been a car or two at 80km/h, all would have been history.
Ride defensive and stay in control.

Scary stuff
The police should get a copy of this video, to include in the accident report which will likely have been filed. Might be worth ringing around local hospitals as well, to get this video to the cyclist,

I know someone who had a car door opened on him a few years back now and he hit the corner of the door. It went right into his chest and nearly killed him, the injuries were quite brutal

I got hit by a 4wd bull bar this morning inTweed Heads South. Bike not so good, a fair bit of skin off. Luckily no broken bones (feels like it). Thank goodness for the helmet, it took a big hit and split. I showed my 7 year old daughter the helmet, I think she understands why I ask her to wear hers.
