Damn it. World cycle travellers killed in Thailand crashA British couple who have traveled throughout Europe, the Middle East and Asia have just been killed on Thailand's lethal roads
The website of their journey. Riding bikes in traffic - what seems dangerous is usually safe; what seems safe is often more dangerous.
Re: Damn it. World cycle travellers killed in Thailand crashVery sad news
They experienced so much in over 18 months of amazing adventure. They died together doing what they loved.
Re: Damn it. World cycle travellers killed in Thailand crashScary to read that the road toll in Thailand is something like 13,000 per year or 19.6 per 100,000 population.
By way of comparison Australia is 5.7 per 100,000. I was going to buy a fast, stylish bike, but I looked in the mirror & thought "you're not fooling anyone, you know"

You think reading about it is scary, try travelling in a tuk-tuk amongst it. We thought Koh Samui was bad when we got there, then we went to Bangkok.....
Re: Damn it. World cycle travellers killed in Thailand crashBeen there, done that

Must admit we didnt try the train, we were only in bangkok for 2 days and one of those was a public holiday. We did use a cabbie as a chauffeur for the day which cost us next do nothing + a trip to 1 jewellery shop which i walked into, did a lap and walked back out
