Giant TCR Advanced 3 Help Needed...

Postby Davie F » Mon Feb 18, 2013 10:30 pm

Hi, Does anyone out there have a 2012 Giant TCR Advanced 3 (105 G/set) in Red and white? I'm trying to decide between 2 bikes (2012 Adv.3 & Comp 1 (Ultegra)) and all I can separate them with now is the colour - I can buy either for witin £10 of each other. The Adv. 3 is usually seen in White & black here in the UK but I can only get it in red/white via mail order. As yet I've only seen a side view and really could do with more photos to make a choice. My research suggests that Red/White appears to the be the 'standard' colour for this bike in Australia (?) Can anyone help with photos - does anyone have this bike? Any leads and help very gratefully received.

Thanks, have done that but found little. That said, someone on bikeradar.com found an example in Oz for sale 2nd hand which has helped a bit. Bizarrely even Giant can't help!

Yes, that is the bike but what I'm really looking for is more angles of it other than a standard side-view. Thanks for your help...

The red bike looks a whole lot better in the flesh - I see one all the time raced at Waratah Vets races on Sunday mornings.

Was not a fan in the shops but out on the road looks a treat. Unique and really stands out in this black on black era!

Interesting to hear that as I'm not too keen but can get one new over here in the UK at a very good price. Its a toss up between that and a Giant Comp 1 (full Ultegra) at the same price. The Comp has a nice Black/red/white finish and better groupset but the Adv 3 has a better frame abd rave reviews (105 G/set).....#
cheers

You are a star! All I've been able to find in the last month is one side view in an online Giant catalogue and its hard to tell what the bike really looks like.....

they are the best looking bikes i reckon, i love this one, i had 2 of these frames, this one with Di2 and the other had 6700 on it, but i needed some cash so sold the other red one.. i dont think ill ever sell this one, i took my first 2 wins on this bike so it will stay for a while lol

This is exactly what I was after. It is a good looking bike. The sideview alone doesn't do it justice. I reckon it could be the one for me. Sadly I can only afford the Adv.3 (105) - and only that one heavily discounted being a 2012 model. Would like it with Ultegra but I think its a better overall package than the Comp1 with Ultegtra....

Thanks again for your time and help with this. Very much appreciated.

my training bike is a 2012 TCR advanced in the silver and blue colour (used to be sold as a TCR 0) it has 5700 105 on it and i cannot tell the difference between the 5700 and the other bike that had 6700 on it..

PS all these frames are DI2 ready so just ride it with the 5700 on it and when its time to upgade throw some DI2 on it :)

That is very interesting. I think the main difference between 105 & Ultegtra is a little weight more than anything. I'm sure 105 is prefectly adequate for me and it makes more sense to have the better carbon and frameset of the Adv. over the Composite 1. As I said before, the Adv. has had some excellent reviews and was top3 in bike of the year in 2012 on bikeradar.com in the UK....

Yep weight isn't a huge problem anyway on these bikes the frame a d wheels are pretty light

Hi Dale,
Just taken the plunge and ordered a Red/white TCR Advanced on the strength of your pics! My only concern is how I'll get on with the standard chainset - I'll try it for a while & if necessary change to a compact.... Thanks for your help with the photos, much appreciated.

Thanks for your advice. I'll take some pics when it arrives which will probably be late next week. This will be quite a rarity on the roads here in the UK. Not sure why this particular shop ended up with Aussie colour bikes. Normal UK colour for this model is white/black....

Hi,
Yes! I have had it since early March but the weather over here was abysmal with snow and ice that I've only been riding it for a few weeks - brilliant bike but boy is it stiff! Harder than a corpse on !!! spammer !!!! Still getting used to it/getting braver with downhills and cornering but very pleased. I need to sort out a basic computer for it as my other bike has a non Ant+ compatible Cateye. I have been meaning to take some photos - will so soon and post up. How come you have another? Wet rides and dry rides??!

Cheers
Davie

Can't actually see how to add pics? Tried clicking on img but no joy.... Just noticed my post was 'amended' as I referred to the bike being stiffer than a corpse on the little blue erectile disfuction pill. This has been altered to reference to vitamins instead!

yeh ill use the DI2 for racing and the other for training which has 6700 ultegra on it.. Saves changing brake pads and wheels all the time..

to upload pics i usually put them on facebook then right click on the pic and it will give you the link for it then add it into the img tags..

i would look at geting a garmin 510 or something like that for the computer
