A Pedersen...
An old design. Would love to give one a try.

A historical classic, in modern guise. It is a Dursley Pedersen, a Danish design that dates back to the 1890s and is allegedly a very comfortable bike to ride.

It looked pretty funky. Didn't get a chance to see the owner and ask about it.

That bike looks particularly well set up for long-distance touring - Tubus front and rear racks, Rohloff Speedhub 500/14 (14sp internal hub gears), Schmidt SON28 dynohub (and probably high quality lights), Magura hydraulic rim brakes, lots of waterbottle mounts, leather saddle covered in the rain, full mudguards and Hebie Chainglider to protect the chain. With an Ortlieb handlebar bag mount on the stem. A top-quality bike.

I'd guess it may well be a European (Dutch) travelling cycle-tourist, stopped by in your town for supplies.

Bejeebus, you are letting you narrow understanding of the world of cycling hang out

Dursley Pedersen have a particular look. It's not my ideal, however they are a classic design and very significant, right up there with the Ordinary (penny-farthing), the Rover Safety, Hetchins, the Flying Gate and the Moulton in bicycle design and hstory. The most significant thing about the Dursley Pedersen, along with the Moulton, is that they are still a very functional bicycle, still being produced with some modern adaptations.

Could it be THIS reincarnation?

Not exactly the same. The one pictured definitely has a Rohloff hub not Alfine 8, and it has full touring rack-mounts. I think there are a few manufacturers of Dursley's in Europe, and they are very rarely seen in Australia. I'd guess that it is a European-built bike.

As I said, it is also not to my taste either

Tastes are one thing, it's all a question of how you respond to that. I'm not nominating it for an "Ugly bike award".

I also don't particularly like the Mona Lisa either. But I'd have a bit more respect for art enthusiasts judgement, and the legacy of da Vinci, than to suggest the painting should win some "ugly award".

YMMV.

This is what I would call a "Strange bike" - looks like the proverbial goolie-cracker.

This one is also a pretty strange bike - the ultimate step-through:

I can sort of see frame flex becoming a bit of an issue

Talk about deja vu, Why are there two posts on this one bike, both by the same author on the same day.
Shouldn't they be combined or some thing, Mods?

muggglechops realised, after my comments on here, that it was a touring bike so he posted it on the touring forum. Maybe more relevant there perhaps, but still of general interest here as an unusual, unique bicycle design. Could also be relevant on the retro forum, but I'm pretty sure they'd already have a Pedersen thread somewhere.
