Suggestions please

Postby meags24 » Wed Feb 27, 2013 11:46 am

Hi there,

I'm after a bike for some light weekend trail riding as well as the occasional spin to work (half trail/half road) flat surfaces. I've currently got an Avanti Giro purchased 2008 however there are alot of trails around where I live and I find I don't end up riding as the road bike isn't suitable.

Any suggestions? i'm 6ft so generally prefer Mens bikes for the size.

Cheers

G'Day Meags, welcome outside :)

It's hard to be specific without knowing the type of trails, are you talking well groomed or rough and rocky singletrack?

You could probably get away with a decent 700c hybrid but a bike from the Cyclocross stable would be the best compromise IMO.
Do you have some sort of budget in mind?

I don't have a budget in mind...I think I paid around $1000 for the Avanti back then. I guess they are worth half that now. If I could sell that and get a new one with only a small changeover cost that would be ideal.

Methinks you could be right, killer deal.

I've ridden dirt roads on my carbon road bike, but it wasn't fun :P

I love my CX bike, a CX with 35c knobby tyres would do well on fire trails and be faster on the road, depends what side of the compromise you want to be on. For example : http://www.this link is broken/boardman-cx-comp/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
