Hey guys,
On my ride to work this morning between Freo and Perth, I noticed a number of people with clip boards. They appeared to be taking note as each cyclist rode past.
I saw them at Curtin Ave/Marine Pde, Eric St/Curtin Ave, and Grant St Train Station.
Is this part of our annual bike survey?
Cheers

Its part of the "Super Tuesday" count. Since you ride out of Freo, here is bit on last year's count. It looks like more counters out along that route this year.
Personally I think the Department of Transport data is far more robust and usable. I understand that the Super Tuesday data has to be purchased(funded) by Councils and then it is up to the Council if they release it. Results in a mixed bag of counting across the City.

That's interesting, considering I only saw counters in Town if Cottesloe..........tells me Cottesloe must be gearing up for a funding push.Aushiker wrote:Its part of the "Super Tuesday" count. Why couldn't Freo have counters at every corner!!

I did not see a single one from Duncraig until I got into Perth CBD - that goes through 4 local councils.
I potentially saw one at Loftus St Underpass (location of the accident two months ago), where I'm pretty sure there was one counting cycling traffic. Draw back, on was riding on Loftus St so I may not have been counted.
I'm with Andrew, the data collected by DoT's is more useful, as they are capturing movements 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. They installed one just north of Karrinyup Rd just under 12 months ago, which can be used to demonstrate why those potholes on the PSP need to be repaired.
Today was wet and a public holiday yesterday, I don't need someone counting cyclists to tell me there were less bikes out today :0 .
If you are into statistics, DoT also does a seperate annual count. This generally occurs at the end of March.

Wednesday 20-Mar-2013, went through at least 4 people counting bike movement. Would guess this is DoT's annual count indicated in the last post.

Yep, I also passed two counters in West Perth on the 20th. They were along the bike path behind the RAC building then again at the corner of Wellington and George Street.rolandp wrote:Wednesday 20-Mar-2013, went through at least 4 people counting bike movement. Did you do any bog laps to help get the numbers up?rolandp wrote:Wednesday 20-Mar-2013, went through at least 4 people counting bike movement. Would guess this is DoT's annual count indicated in the last post.

Given that it is BikeWeek with breakfasts all over the place, numbers should be up anyway.
