Sunblock for everyday use

Postby robbiepapenfus » Thu Mar 07, 2013 4:39 pm

Hi guys and gals..

In summer, I tend to be sunblock on my face everyday when I cycle home from work, which is about 30-40mins.

I’m currently just using Cancer Councils Sport (SPF 30), but I wonder how good it is to put on our face EVERYDAY?

Could you suggest something which might be better for everyday use?

These sunblocks seem to have heaps of chemicals in them.. not sure how good they all are for you if used everyday.

Cheers,
Robbie

Oxygen is a chemical and life is what ultimately kills you.
But I'm sure if you're looking for a conspiracy you want to believe - you'll find it. Just take a look at some of these Diet threads going here on atm.

I'm a Ranga and burn as easily as dry grass. As well as long sleeves or "sun sleeves" I use cheap Cancer Council stuff on most parts of my body, except my face as also I sweat like a stuck pig, the cheapie stuff gets in my eyes and hurts like crazy. I use some of the thicker Banana Boat that takes a bit more rubbing in to do the job on my forehead & mug in general without irritation.

I try and avoid sunscreen if at all possible. Long sleeve jersey, Buff or similar head scarf etc but if I must then the Hamilton Quadblock is the go to stuff. Or plain old zinc cream...
Ours is not to reason why...merely to point and giggle

Silk balaclava and dark glasses. Tends to put the wind up drivers and youo really need to take them off if you plan on going into a shop or bank or whatever. :D

I use Sunsense Face Milk, but depending on the time of day, I may not bother.

What time are you cycling home?

Here you go, perfect chemical free sunblock...

PMSL.... With less shame than melanin in my body... I'd wear this! :D

Don't know about all the Euro-cool tragics on their TT bikes, though.

If you can't trust the cancer council who can you trust. I live in the sun, wear a hat and sunglasses to work everyday, shorts and long sleeve shirt rolled above elbow, I don't love sunscreen but wear it regularly, went to skin dr last week and got 2 spots burnt off my face. I go to him every 12 months and seem to get 2 or 3 done each year. Wear sunscreen it's better than the option! I am 47yrs old who knows what damage sunscreen is doing to me, but I know what will happen if I don't wear it.

Just stating the obvious... the stuff is great - it stops you getting burnt everyday!! I love the gear - get on it and stay on it!

I'll put a vote in for Hamilton's Quadblock. Also the Cancer Council Work sunscreen as it's far less greasy than other creams, and doesn't seem to run into your sweat much. Each to their own about wearing suncream, but forgetting about the long term factors, the feeling of a nice sting, and subsequent peeling from a good burn is something I'm happy to avoid on a regular basis.

The best I have found is Banana Boat Dry Touch Sport, not the one in the large orangebtube, which although labeled Sport is greasy, but the hard smaller plastic orange bottle. It's a good size for my commuting backpack.

That one is good and I used it all the time, but now they have the Sport 50+ which I thought was going to be some kind of white kludge. Instead it goes in really well and is not greasy at all.

I've been looking out for the 50+ but it hadn't reached the supermarket shelves yet. I will peel my eyes further. Thanks.

For normal commuting hours and a 30 minute ride I don't find sunblock necessary, might even get enough sun to not be vitamin D deficient. Might be different on afternoons with daylight savings or in Tassie in summer.
