Just seems like bad form.
I will leave this thread alone, I didn't intend to bag any one but just could not condone the implied ill feeling towards what is after all just two people going out for a walk. I just keep seeing my wife and daughter out there and realise the amount of hatred out there in store for them. And we complain when motorists do the wrong thing?

I know it is a nice downhill section and there is a tendency to 'fang' it there,
but it is one of the most dangerous sections as there is an entry/exit there as well.

And that's the problem with online forums. One person can take what you say as a joke which can be instant/followed up by the next few posts or they can take great offence. If someone is new to the forum its the same as someone meeting other friends of your friend. They might joke around and they see it as banter while you might see it and take it another way. If they read the next few posts they could have worked out it was just banter by the way I followed up the post of "wait, you were joking weren't you?" with "............................ ummm.... maybe (multiple smilies)". Alot of the people that post in this thread always throw around banter. If someone steps out into our path by not looking someone will say either the op or someone else jokingly you should of just hit them. The same over in the the moron motorist thread. Someone gets a close shave with a passing car and banter about knocking their side mirror off/kick or punch to the side panel of the car usually folows. Just because we joke about it doesn't mean we actualy do it or condone it.
And what difference does it make that she's a woman? All you have done by repeating "violence against women" over and over is made it sound like it would have been fine if it was a guy but a woman... oooooooooooooooooooo you can't say that. What annoys me about those ads/campaigns are that it only addresses voilence to one particular group. What about violence against men? What about violence in same sex relationships? Bottom line is violence against anyone isn't good.
If you have taken offence to anything I have said then I appologise for that.

Tempting, but I think some choice words would suffice. Her behaviour is made worse because that's a particularly dangerous part of the MYT - it's narrow, bumpy and fast.Lukeyboy wrote:Knock her out of the way next time with your elbowjules21 wrote:

for those not familiar, this is the Main Yarra Trail in melbourne - highway 1 for cyclists. she knows what she's doing.

It's fine to fang it there so long as there's no/little traffic. I reckon plenty go 35-45kph through there. The entry/exit is about 100m further under the bridge.roobab wrote:Hi, Juls21 , what would you estimate your speed on that section of the MYT?

Note that I'm not interested in ever copying your experience with that MGIF moron in the other idiots thread. The video was all anyone would need to lobby the council to ban on street parking in that area.

about 30 km/h. it's not dangerous when you're approaching people keeping to the left, and vice versa. i had plenty of time to slow down and take evasive action, but when it became clear she was playing chicken with me, i chose not to.roobab wrote:Hi, Juls21 , what would you estimate your speed on that section of the MYT?

in other circumstances, i won't hesitate to come to a full stop. i do it regularly, such as when there are kids around.

At the same time as she put the right elbow out, she was looking straight at the rider and actually stepped to her right further into the centre of the rider's path ... and then realised almost instantly that he wasn't about to be bluffed, and retreated.jules21 wrote:about 30 km/h. it's not dangerous when you're approaching people keeping to the left, and vice versa. i had plenty of time to slow down and take evasive action, but when it became clear she was playing chicken with me, i chose not to.roobab wrote:Hi, Juls21 , what would you estimate your speed on that section of the MYT?

Puts the probability of playing chicken well over the 50% mark for me.
I had a guy do that to me at St Leonards Park one evening, traversing the SUP behind North Sydney Oval. Walking with is wife/GF the tool looked me straight in the eye and veered directly into my path, forcing me to a stop, and had a go at me for "riding on the foot path". He backed off when I said "It's a shared path, ya goose! " Too dark for the Hero2, sadly.

Or maybe they were part of it??
Assembly time is 1:30pm for body painting and media interviews, and ride takes off at 2pm down the bikepath right down to the former ABC Radio studios off Coronation Drive. We will have an after-ride drinks at the Regatta Hotel, where you can make new friends and help organise the next ride and other similar clothes free activities in Brisbane.

the only really steep bits are around walmer, specifically heading north (away from city), the river-side path is quite do-able.Mulger bill wrote:Thanks Jules, looks like Victoria St to Walmer and onto the trail citybound will do nicely Would you say it's doable on a 75 GI Fixed or should I roll the commuter?

Lady on bike-shaped-object going the other way approaching the crest going uphill following Man on bike-shaped-object as I'm approaching from the other direction. I could see them both going in a single line, but then right at last minute she decided to overtake going uphill.
Damn that was too close. Rest of the ride was uneventful.

Yep, that's an adult and child riding on a tiny little kick scooter, heading downhill at a decent clip on the wrong side of the road (there is a footpath on the other side). Can you imagine the damage that kid would sustain in the event they catch a pothole with the front wheel and faceplant into the pavement?

Thanks Jules, ended up using the commuter after discovering a turned brake block on the FG when I pulled it out of the shed It was fine when I put it in...jules21 wrote:the only really steep bits are around walmer, specifically heading north (away from city), the river-side path is quite do-able.Mulger bill wrote:Thanks Jules, looks like Victoria St to Walmer and onto the trail citybound will do nicely Would you say it's doable on a 75 GI Fixed or should I roll the commuter?
That's one nice bit of path that is, I can see why it's popular. Lots of people out riding today, plenty of family action too. Love seeing the smiles on the kids faces Excellent sight lines for the most part with plenty of room if everybody plays nice. (And some interesting looking unpaved off shoots that will be explored on a more suitable bike soon )

Me this morning. Two slower cyclists in bike lane in front of me, enter road lane to overtake, get not really even entirely past the first and the light in front goes red. The other rider didn't make room (not that they are required to) so I had to hang in the road lane and wait for her to go past before dropping back into the bike lane. Probably should have put in more of an effort beforehand but don't normally get that light so thought I'd casually make my way past.
