2013 Giant Pro Road Bikes..

Postby rabobank89 » Fri Aug 17, 2012 11:01 pm

Soo..

What does everyone think of the new colour schemes and changes to the high end range of the 2013 Giant's?

Seems as though they got rid of the Aero P-SLR1's in exchange for the standard on the TCR SL0.. Love the 11sp Di2 :D

Seriously, what is the deal with this white bartape fetish?
It's be the first to go followed very quickly by that clunky stem.
I'm surprised Giant haven't looked into an integrated front brake for the Trinity line.

Agree 100%.

I just hope we don't get to the size of this:

They are beautiful in a "form follows function" kind of way. But not in a beautiful way, unfortunately.

The TCS SL with non-Di2 is an awesome bargain - $5.5k for a pro level frame with carbon bar, stem and seat post, 11 speed DA and 1390g wheels. Last year's model was not as high spec (old DA, no ISP) and RRP was $100 more.

The colour of the TCR Advanced 0 (Ultegra Di2) looks, from the picture at least, to be a great improvement over the 2012 model. I'm not convinced by the white tape and saddle though.
Also the price drop on the Advanced SL 0 (11spd DA Di2) to $7.3k makes it a hard choice for those who were waiting for the 'run-out' price drop on the 2012 10spd model (guessing at $6.5k discounted)...

We don't get all the range that the US gets it seems. I thought the Trinity Composite 0 with Ultegra Di2 would have sold well to testers and triathletes over here...

My guess (based on what happened with Giant & Ultegra Di2) is (apart from the odd demo model) it'll be available in the new year but you'll have to put an order in this year if you want to get one from one of the first batches shipped.

Interesting to note that the Trinity SL1 has gone away from DA 7900 mech to Ui2 ... not a fan.
Note sure what's up with that green either!

Suspect the thinking is that it gives more gear shift position options (at brakes and tri-bars) than mechanical (tri-bars only) but at a similar price point.
I thought they'd bring in the Trinity Composite 0 with Ultegra Di2 (sold in US) but maybe it would detract sales from the SL1...

Yeah mate, I believe that's the the reason behind it too.
The current range uses the same frame for both the SL1 and SL0, just one has Di2 and 808s, while the other has mech 7900 and OEM dish wheels.
I've already got tubs, so I wasn't going to spring an extra 5k for Di2!

If I do another Giant, it will be the TCR SL 0 so there will be a carbon railed FitZik saddle for sale. I am on the Spesh Romin saddle now and wouldn't go back. I dont mind white bar tape with a white seat but that stuff thats on from the factory will be replaced with PRO Digital carbon stuff, brilliant tape.

Had my TCR SL0 just 1 month now and loving it. Bike weighed 6.91Kg out of the box with pedals.
Love the satin black & blue and it cleans up really easy.
What can I say? It may not have the passion or history of say, a Pinarello, but value for money - hard to beat.

I bought a 2013 TCR Advanced 2. Put about 2500km on it so far and love it.

I ended up getting the SL1 in the beginning of Feb, I didn't want to wait until week 13 for the Di2 model. I have changed the handlebars to 3T ergonova. Its the same frame as the SL0 (diff colour) so will upgrade to Di2 when the electronic only kits come down in price in a year or so.

Have done 2050 kms on it so far. I have had one issue where the carbon mid-spider of the 11 speed cassette cracked, waiting for warranty replacement now. Old 10 speed cassette working fine BTW.

Yeh right, good to know, or not so good depending on how you look at it.

Mine cracked after track standing at a set of lights and taking off with extreme pressure on the pedals, I'd estimate around 750-800 watts in the 53-19, it gave way as if the chain was slipping, but upon further inspection is was the spider spinning around to the next spline on the freewheel. I dare say it was somehow slightly cracked prior to this and the violent take off was the actual breaking point.

Will be good when Ultegra goes 11 speed, I doubt it will have a carbon mid cage, besides I've always purchased Ultegra cassettes instead of the expensive DA ones.
