Porsche MTB

Hey lads
I picked up this frame & forks with a Porsche head decal
I remember seeing Porsche bikes back in the day at the Porsche shop out the back of Rose bay in Sydney
Pretty sure it is a mtb by the forks
Can anyone tell me about these and if it is legit (pics would be awesome)

Sorry, bike is nothing special. There were "Porshe" (nb. spelling) bikes around in Aust for a bit in the 70s, pre the modern MTB era. This frame looks like a pretty garden variety, consumer level, mid to late 80s MTB. No cantilever studs on either the forks rear stays also suggest it was just a caliper equipped cheapie.

Any treadlies you see branded with properly spelt "Porsche" and Stuttgart crest etc. would be just labelled under license from other bike manufacturers anyway. Much like I have seen Ferrari and even HSV MTBs.

Someone has just stuck the Porsche crest sticker on this at some point, sorry.

I doubt even the sticker is a licensed product, somehow. I'd be more convinced with the Wolfsburg crest

My dad still has the remains of his first car in the paddock, an old beetle with the wolfsburg badge on the leading edge of the front bonnet.

Cranks Bros wheelsets - a triumph of form over function. All the independent reviews I've read of bikes fitted with them rave about how much better the bike feels when fitted with something else.

I was told these Porshe's were actually made by Ricardo before they became Ricardo. I was told this by the owner of Clarke's Cycles in Adelaide some years ago. I think it stopped because Porsche did get in touch with Porshe. I actually had a set of the Waterslide Decals for Porshe at one point. Sadly long gone.

The story maybe true, bigdragon and I have read some internet anecdotal story to similar effect previously - but I don't think the OP's bike is such an example of the South Aussie bikes, somehow.
