Which small car that will fit my bike inside of it ?
Postby kim_5 » Sat Mar 16, 2013 4:15 pm
What small car fits a bike inside of it?
I read somewhere that you can fold the back seat flat seat in a mazda 2 and it will fit a bike inside! Is that correct?
I would love to buy an suv but not sure if i want to spend that much money on a car. So just wanting to hear from small car drivers that can fit a bike inside. Its either that or fix a permenant bike rack to the back of the car but i would much prefer to be able to put the bike inside the car!
thanks for your help!

Mazda6 wagon will fit a bike with the wheels on. Take both wheels off and the bike will fit in the cargo area with the back seat up.

i've got a mazda metro which I think was the pre-cursor to the mazda 2, you can fit 2 road bikes in it without removing the front wheels.kim_5 wrote:I read somewhere that you can fold the back seat flat seat in a mazda 2 and it will fit a bike inside! Is that correct?
still quite a few around in pretty good condition if you are willing to get something secondhand.

When I take it in for servicing I throw the bike in the back and ride to/from work.
Back seats down in the car, front wheel off the bike, fits with no problems.

A bike will fit inside ALL small cars except for maybe a SMART Car. Just take the wheels off. If you don't take the wheels off then the bike still has better chances of fitting in a small hatchback than a large sedan.

My mum and my in-laws have the older style Jazz too. The older style requires you to take the rear seat headrests off to flatten the seats. The newer style (2008+) does not.
I often borrow my mums to drive to the start of Audax rides. Need to take the front wheel off, but fits very easily. Have not tried it with the our car because the child seat is too much hassle to take out so we have a roof rack + bike carrier.

Seriously great car for an active couple.
Back seats fold down means we can get a couple of bikes, luggage and a whole heap of other crap in there.
its economical, great to drive, easy to park etc.
Plus, its 4X4 - not like you are going to be able to go out and bury it up to the mudguards in mud - but when its summer and those big storms hit, you know its gonna stick to the road!!
Plus its great for people who might do the odd bit of camping, gravel roads, going to the snow etc etc where having that extra bit of traction is helpful!
Once of the best cars we've ever had.

my wifes bike fits in with both wheels on and I have to take the front wheel off to get mine in (58cm frame). The tandem also fits in with both wheels off.
If you want something smaller then my car is a Suzuki Swift Sport.
Wifes bike fits minus the front wheel. My bike needs both wheels taken off and the tandem fits with the front third removed by undoing the S&S couplers
