It's only a race if you all know you are in it.

I believe I defended a CCR today!
Turned onto the shared path from Concord West to Rhodes (within SOP) and caught a glimpse of a rider doing the same behind me. I was intending on taking it easy along here as I havent ridden ina while but I simply could not let another rider overtake! So I sat on about 33km/h all the way to Rhodes. There were plenty of safe places to pass me along here but gladly the other person didn't!
Not quite sure where the other guy went as I entered the road and he wasn't following...

I'm claiming a CCR Defense! :)

Sounds like a sound defense, that! I had a similar experience in the same location last Monday evening. Caught up to a rider who was setting a good pace, waited for a clear section and moved past. He immediately clamped onto my wheel and stayed there all the way to Rhodes. Not sure how much draft he was getting as I ride a recumbent, but he made no effort to come around and seemed quite happy to stay there. He was riding well so I was happy enough to have him there as well. I’m coming back from a sore knee, so didn’t want to really put in an effort to pull away (CCR excuse), but we certainly maintained a good clip for the run. He turned off into Rhodes and I continued along the foreshore to the bridge, so didn’t get a chance to say hello. Added a bit of fun to the run home :)

CCR velomobile style....

PS - I do realise they weren't actually racing and neither was I, but KonaCommuter would claim it, especially the 1st one. He was a KC special ... :mrgreen:

Do ride-on mowers count? Nailed one going up a short fast incline today. ;)

Nice one! No motorised scalps here, but I did manage a quad. Rare to see this many bikes early in my commute.

I wondered for a while what on earth he was doing, until I saw the truck was parked over behind Northey Street. HUGE shortcut - clever bloke probably earned himself enough time for two extra schooners :)

Another long drawn out one. I didn't pass this rider but I did manage to hold him off/ "drop him" between lights/ eventually loose him (he probably turned off). Does it count? :) Backstory at http://aushiker.com/sccr-2013-4/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

A long 8 Km CCR run this morning, and probably one of the best rides I've had in a while. Today's opponent was spotted early in the ride, was a strong rider who required considerable effort to make ground on, but eventually made a tactical error and went the wrong side of some barriers at road works, so I was able to take overtake him at that point. Next set of lights were red, and we exchanged good mornings, then he snuck to head of the queue. On the green, he was up on pegs and took off, gaining a little distance before I could match his speed (pannier full of a weeks work clothes were not conducive to quick acceleration). His next tactical error was probably due to timidness on the road / in traffic - we came to a bridge that does not have a shoulder, and he elected to take a narrow adjacent pedestrian bridge, which had a largish ped blocking the centre of it. I claimed the traffic lane on the road and shot past him - maintaining a healthy lead till the next red, but this time he did not sneak to the front. From here was an amazing 3.5 km spurt down the highway, being drafted all the way (did not mind - he was a good rider and I knew he was there) nudging speeds in the high 40's. After a couple of km's of maddness, slowing for a red, he came alongside, thanked me for the run and turned off, for which I was most grateful - there was no way I could keep that pace up for much longer.

And yes, got front and rear video, but no time right now to splice a highlights reel together.

Nothing like a tactical error to help get your points up. I was hoping for one this morning but he didn't make any errors!

Lol! Off Herston Road onto Alberleigh Rd than pass the intersection onto Fagon - looked familar part of my route to and from work. You probably got a few CCR points off me - I generally ride a flatbar with a rack and a white pannier though I can be really annoying as the gradient goes up as I don't like going slow up them :) Hopefully this will change when I move to a drop bar commuter bike next week :mrgreen:
