So found a bike that fits from the netherlands.
The sellers dad's bike which had a racing triple on it, stripped and sold to me.
I decided to modernise it, give it some nice wheels and decent parts just to see how it rides :)

Chorus headset
Veloce gruppo 10s
Toupe Saddle
Athena seatpost
Cinelli 1a stem
ITM 225 bars
Zipp tape
Mavic Kysrium SL wheels
Elite Ciussi Cages

weighs a flat 10 with all accessories as pictured.

Out the box:

now just needs to be ridden :D

Nice one Dave! A good mix of modern components there - not usually a fan of ksyriums but I think they work well here.

Was that really how it was shipped?! Please tell me there was more packing in the box!!

I nearly bought that one when it came up, just on a whim. Nice size. Nice looker. I couldn't get the Ksyrium's off mine fast enough, but they match the red a whole lot better than mine did. Should be a great ride.

Wheels are ok, nice to ride, only reason why they are staying.

Jim, unfortunately, that was EXACTLY how it came. I was shocked to say the least but the frame was beautiful.

So is this the steel that's relegated your carbon to the for sale forum?

1982 Chesini X-UNO

Postby harcs » Mon Mar 25, 2013 1:44 pm

This project started in November last year when I found a Chesini frame on ebay. Like so often happens the photos looked great but when it arrived it was in poor condition with rust thru the bottom of the top tube, due to a design fault where the internal brake cable tracks water down to lie in the top tube until it creates it's own hole to escape. So this is the finished product with parts collected from all over the world. I am a goer not necessary a show-er so at 7.30pm on Friday night after I had finally connected the brakes and with lights raided of my Cannondale, I rode to my son's house in the dark. Not a good trick when you haven't got a clue which gear you are in.

From the above images you can tell it is definitely a Chesini X-UNO. I have not been able to trace the ownership of the frame but I believe it came from the states. The colours and line marking are as per original except I changed from yellow to blue on the head lug to match the original C-Delta brake that I found in Poland. On Saturday I headed of on my normal morning ride only to break the Maillard cassette on the first hill. The cassette came with the wheels from the UK and looked OK however the second gear in from the frame split so I lost the two top gears. Not to be dounted, I removed the offending gears and continued, completing 72 klms by the end of the weekend with only 8 gears. Does anyone have a Maillard Course French 80 cassette?

The frame as I bought.

Thanks Guys, my first restoration in the 80's period which I found much easier than restoring my 1940 Malvern Star. I have a Vetta frame so with the excess Campi bits I collected will build the Vetta frame into a bike. This one will be a build, not a restoration. If you want to see the Chesini in the flesh please come to my Retro Gold Coast Ride on the 13th April. Details in the Queensland Forum.

Nope, original paintwork on this one, the photo makes it look better than it is, has a few chips and bits of discolouration. Got the frame on ebay for about $110, the brake levers were $50 odd and the rest was lying around. Very heavy but it's not too bad a climber, and on rolling roads she absolutely flies. Love it :D .

had this for sale as a frameset, but no interest, so i've started building it up for sale as a complete bicycle.

Looks nice Munga.

You do know you will lose money on it though. Every complete bike that i have sold on eBay has gone for less than I would of got for it by splitting.

Interesing - someone bought an almost complete bike in the marketplace on these forums, added a saddle & a pair of wheels & sold it on ebay for more than double the price. Funnily enough more than half his posts are in the market place.

Just my experiences. I have sold a few over the years.
