Bicyclists being fined at Brisbane CBD riverside walkway?
Postby molly » Fri Mar 22, 2013 11:59 am
This morning (approx 8.30am) I was riding along the riverside walkway and at the end of the 'riverwalk' (where the pathway connects to boundary st/ivory lane) there were three cops on motorbikes who were fining two cyclists. They just appeared to be normal commuters (not lycra clad bicyclists) they both did not appear to be together (seemed like two students) both had helmets, bells etc.
Did anyone else get fined? The police looked like they had setup on the grass there opposite the start of the riverwalk. Trying to find out what it was for, I definitely was not stopping to ask!

No wonder people have no respect for them, I certainly don't.

That's a bit harsh - most people would argue they don't even deserve to be fined at all for minor technical infringements like this .....wurtulla wabbit wrote:Should be shot for this low act.

I agree, the cyclists should not be shot............Rhubarb wrote:That's a bit harsh - most people would argue they don't even deserve to be fined at all for minor technical infringements like this .....wurtulla wabbit wrote:Should be shot for this low act.

Precisely why i ride down Ivory St - no stop sign at the bottom and i can usually get 50kph+ going down it...Rhubarb wrote:Failing to stop at the stop sign at the bottom of Ivory Lane.

I don't recall seeing anything in the road rules exempting cyclists from the road rules. Speed on these paths can be a bit suss to gauge on your bike without the speedo but you should have a fair idea of whether you're traveling to fast or not.

Fine bikes for being on paths and whole we are at it, lets get kids in skateboards to wear a lid or fine them ....
Silly laws. Place is full of them
Got politicians like Craig thompson wasting thousands of public money in hookers and we're fining cyclists....
What a joke.

Yep. What's more, they can't even collect the fines imposed.Venus62 wrote:Apparently the police were there again this morning. A friend of my husband's was let off with a warning. Seems a real waste of resources.

They are a police service, not a revenue collecting service...well they are but they're not supposed to be FFS !

That ferry terminal bit annoys me because they peds don't look or suddenly they decided to walk down the middle of the 'shared lanes'. Same with the botanical gardens segment. Peds will walk into your path even when going head on with them.
