Any one doing the 160km option? It will be my first time. Hoping i can tack onto a bunch to conserve my energy for the final hills

there is a loooong climb after 85 km and a long climb at 115 km and then you have to battle the remaining 50 km of undulating suffering.
Not all the bunches will welcome add-ons.
Addendum - brainwave ! you are a southside boy correct ? - therefore prob could ride with the Crouching Tigers hidden dragons bunch.

Fair point about bunch jumping - although I do make a point of asking first and doing my share of pulls.
I saw those Crouching Tiger guys on Facebook - ill send them a message and ask.
Cheers

Just hope that the weather is good (not too hot or raining). Just remember to keep eating and drinking to fuel you up.

If you are talking about us the Crouching Tigers, most of us have now dropped from the 160 and only doing the 100 this year. lack of preparation and all that being the excuse. Few are still doing the 160. I noticed it is easy to stay bunched but as soon as Boonah arrives, most dribble out in ones and twos because of what is coming up and being hit by crampselantra wrote:What "final hills" Rob ?RobM wrote:Website link: http://www.ipswich100.com.au/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It's actually a 170k ride! Better to be prepared for that and plan for that extra 10 k now. Have fun and enjoy!brett.hooker wrote:I will be there... 160km for me... Good luck tomorrow hope that the weather stays fine for your ride, enjoy it, it's beautiful out there!
I might be wishing that I'd signed up for the 100 miles instead of my race about 1pm tomorrow

Good on you for having a go. The 50km is a fun ride with not much in the way of hills at all. I've done the 50km 3 times now, twice on the mtb and lastVenus62 wrote:Very pleased to be doing the 50km... My first of these sort of events. Riding with some friends so should be good. year on the roadbike, so I shall be giving the 100km a crack this time. Looking forward to see how i go for the 2km cat 5 hill around the 45km mark, and
if i average > 25kph over the 100km i'll be stoked.

Good on you for stepping up to the 100km. I did it last year for the first time (hadn't done the 50) and it was my first ever 100km ride. That hill isn't so bad. It's only steep for a little bit and you can stand up and grind it out. I was pretty much bang on 4 hours or 26.5km/h avg and that was with probably 20 minutes spent at the side of the road dealing with cramps in the second half!Big_Red wrote:Venus62 wrote:Good on you for having a go. Watch out for pot holes around Peak Crossing. I broke a spoke there.

I can't forsee any problems with the hills for the 100km after having done Mt Gravatt Mountain several times, which is supposed to be a cat 4 hill. Besides, if you have to go up, you must have to come down the other side some time and i need to break my speed record of 70kph...
