Female newbie!
Postby michelle_s » Wed Apr 03, 2013 4:15 pm
I'm quite new to cycling and new to this forum. I have a roadbike and cycle about 40kms a day averaging about 28kms a hour but feel i'm being lazy and not quick enough. I also cycle alone
I cycle from point walter so if there are any females out the who are at about the same pace as me, come cycle with me!
Also what is everyones average kms a day and speed?

Don't feel lazy. 40kms a day at around 28km's per hour and riding solo is nothing to be ashamed of. You are getting along at a fair ol pace there and wouldn't be upset with that at all. You could take up racing at that speed.
Anyway welcome aboard.

michelle_s wrote:Thanks guys! Yeah I was talking to someone I know about maybe joining a club but was told I need to cycle around 35 to 38kmph. What speed to women cycle at when racing? I'm assuming there are different grades.
Welcome!
Riding solo at 28 k's for 40 is pretty good, when racing in a bunch you can do much higher speeds with less effort compared to riding alone.
The last race, a womens combined B/C graded race, I did had an average of 38 but there was one neutral lap in it, most laps we're high 30's into low 40's, for a 30 mins race...ain't no way that I could sustain those speeds for that length of time riding solo.
Go along to a few races and take a look... There might be a women's series that you could start with.
Take out a 3 race licence and give it ago!

Parker's a lady? Bugger me!Tornado wrote:One lady member "Parker" has organised some ladies rides recently I believe. As far as I know she is passionate about her cycling and getting the girls out on their bikes either socially or competitively. Should keep an eye out for some of her threads like
