Gold Coast Retro Ride

Postby harcs » Tue Mar 19, 2013 12:19 pm

The inaugral Gold Coast Retro Ride is rescheduled for Saturday 13th April. The ride will start from outside the Storm Cycles Shop on 415 Golden Four Drive, Tugun at 6.30am sharp. We will ride into NSW with a loop through Banora Point stopping at the Ocean Art Cafe, 110 Marine Parade, Coolangatta for coffee and a brag at around 7.30am. Afterwards we ride back to Storm Cycles Shop where you will be able to view the latest Colnago range including the Colnago Master 30 Edition, a 1983 Sarroni and a 1992 Klien. I hope to have finished my Chesini X-UNO by then plus I believe an Eddy Merckx and a couple of guys from Brisbane will be coming on their bikes. If you require anymore details give Rob a ring on 0413749929. Also if you can indicate on the forum if you intend to come would be great. I am trying to get this going as a monthly event.

disclaimer - a veteran of about the last 3 Ipswich hundreds, but i probably not doing it this year

Just to wet your curiosity come to the Gold Coast Retro Ride on the 13th April to see the rest of the bike. Also a 1940 Malvern Star Oppy Racer and maybe a 1982 Jim Bundy Tandem.

Already have 4 steelies attending and maybe a Jim Bundy Tandem if I can find a pair to ride it. Unfortunately I can only ride one bike at a time. So see you there next Saturday 13th April. Please let me know if you are coming so if running a little late we can ride in circles for a while. Rob 0413749929

Come on guys, a bit of responce required, i'll even accept negative points of view so I have something to read each time i open up the Queensland Forum. I believe we have a Merckx, Gitane, Chesini, Malvern Star and Tony on unknown. I haven't had any volunteers to ride the Jim Bundy Tandem, it is in great condition, Campy wheels, Campy derailluers, TA sprockets and cracks, Cinelli bars and a French cantilever brake that I cannot remember the name. I believe its longest ride was around Tasmania in 1983 and has not been used much since then. The last 20 years hanging from a ceiling. Give me a ring if you would like to ride. Straight pedals no clipons required. Rob 0413749929

the joys of running a ride thread, i'm afraid. no comments, and last minute cancellations by people you didn't even know were coming 8)
should be a good turnout if you keep the enthusiasm up, harcs!

I think munga got it by the short and curlys but to add to it l restarted riding after a break of about 45 years, firstly on a secondhand Merida and then l bought a new Cannondale CAAD 9. Dont get me wrong, l love riding the CAAD 9 but to ride an early bike of the 80's with the beautiful detailing and still bloody quick is a joy to behold, but to ride it in a pack of moderns is not much fun. Therefore the Retro Ride so like bikes and like minded people can get together and have good friendship. Ofcourse it helps if you are a bit crazy.

Sorry guys, I get some enthusiasm going and the weather turns nasty. I will be at the start at 6.15am. The weather forecast says showers increasing into afternoon. They are often wrong but if you don't turn up I will understand. I know its fine to ride in the rain but if you have spent heaps of money and time on a bike you don't necessarily want to ride in the rain.

At this stage I am still coming down. Ironically, have been down at Burleigh for most of the week but back in Bris now. Will make a final decision in the morning but if I'm not there, don't wait. Will be riding a Berretto.

Thanks, for that; I seriously didn't have a clue. 8)
So is this a big thing (local, national, international) and how did it all get started :?:

it's just bike nuts organising rides - nothing too serious about it. you should buy a bike and come along (it sounds like you have a modern bike). 8)

Thanks Retro Man for being the only one brave enough to join me. Nice dry ride to coffee shop, nice wet ride home. Next Gold Coast Retro Ride on Saturday 4th May. As we all know it does not rain in May.

Glad you had a good ride in spite of the rain. Any piccies?

May = 6th wettest month of the year on the Gold Coast (or to be more optimistic 7th driest  )

I think we are all sick of the rain and hope you have good weather in May

I had a 57 but Retro Man still has a beautiful 1956 that he drives on Sundays. He rides a Puch to work, rides his Gitane on Saturdays and drives his 56 VeeDub on Sundays. He is the true Retro Man.
