vintage speedwell need help

Postby agnewconcepts » Tue Mar 26, 2013 9:37 pm

I have recently purchased an old speedwell which was hanging in a shed in Central NSW. The paint is pretty far gone, however you can still clearly read 'speedwell' in running writing which is hand painted on the frame. The lettering is hand painted and it also says "the ACE" on the frame. There is a logo on the down tube from the seat. The serial number is on the bottom bracket and is Z15645, the rear wheel hub says perry as does the brake.
I don't know alot about old bikes, I have been researching the net including looking on the musuem site. I have not been able to come across any serial number on a Speedwell starting with the letter Z.

Hopefully someone can give me some insight into some history of this bike, whether it was a racer, how old it is and whether it is worth restoring or leaving as is.

Cheers.

You'll need to get some good pics and upload them to photobucket etc, you should be able to post the link up as you can't post pics untill you've had 10 posts otherwise you can ask a mod to let you post...

not a Speedwell as such, looks to have been "renovated" by someone, a few similarities to Speedwell or at least a NSW made bike, where does it say Ace?

Its says ace just after Speedwell on one side of the tube as pictured and on the other side it says "the ACE" . Very faded and hard to see.

Thanks for your assitance.

Thanks for the tip.

A few questions?
1. does anyone know approximate year of this bike
2. should it be restored or left in unrestored condition
3. does it have any value?

The bike is for sale if anyone is interested.

Thanks.

50-150 seems about the going rate.

How much would you be asking for it?
