Donna is a great climb. The first half is harder, particularly as you get to Cement Creek. The 2nd half of the climb is quite easy (~5%) and quite cruisy. It does kick a bit towards the end, however at that point you have less than 1 km to go so you can push harder safe in the knowledge that it will all be over soon ;)

Yep, last km (thoughtfully chalked into the ground) is a beauty.

I find it particularly nice in the colder months, when it looks like this:

Of course, on this ride, it started snowing while I was at the summit, and I got very, very cold! But once I got down to Warburton, and tucked into lunch at Crundish cafe, and held my numb hands around a hot mug of coffee, all was well again :D .

I'd love to have a crack at some of those bigger climbs. :)
Baw Baw and Hotham await you! :-)

So far I've only done Macedon, Donna, Buffalo and Buller. I wouldn't put Macedon in the same category as the last three.
I just watched that vid of Gerro riding up Baw Baw. 400w and a 34 -27. It's going to be a hard slog for me on a 39-28

I know a few who have done it with 39/27 and had to resort to zig-zagging up the last part.

A compact would be better - as Gerro poignantly describes!

Better that than walking, at least they conquered it with their pride intact :)

I might be rolling back down with my tail between my legs

Put 32 on the back. A 39 x 32 is as low as a 34 x 28. Works for cheat-ador, sorry Contador.

Or a 36 like Wiggins. Sky had to hack the firmware for the Di2 so it could understand something that big was back there.
