Locking skewers

Postby netoit » Wed Apr 17, 2013 12:46 pm

Hey All

I am interested in getting some locking skewers.
Does anyone have any recommendations?
Does anyone have any experience with either pitlock or atomic?

I have a set of Pinheads that were in the bargain bin at the LBS... seem to work fine and the wheels haven't been nicked yet ;)

Only real downsides are that the seatpost lock isn't compatible with the non-QR collar on my bike - I guess a cheap QR would fix that, but I was more interested in the skewers - and the skewers protrude slightly on the threaded side (Pinhead recommends you cut them down, which I might do at some stage).
There are four phases of bicycle commuting; first there's fear, then rage, then self-righteousness and finally, fun.

I believe Pitlock get a lot of mention in the touring section. I've seen no mention of Atomic.
Might mean something or nothing.

I've got Pitlocks. Wheels haven't been stolen so far.
You do need to keep the special socket in your tool kit in case you need to change a tube, and remember to not leave your toolkit on the bike.

While not exactly locking, I got these: http://www.velogear.com.au/hex-skewers.html and they've been pretty decent. No complaints yet....
