Hey lads
I am a bmx restorer and decided to build a racer for better training
I have buidling a cr-mo tange double buttered Kojima but its feels to small and then last week i got hold of a alloy framed bike which is a better size but i dont know what it is
Its got all sorts of stickers on it e.g Koflach, corsa sportivo, campione, van de veire and ditributed by TI Industries West Footscray (stamped under bb M8-L 8599)
Forks are stamped Mercier which i think is french
Brakes- rear are modolo and front are dia compe
Rims- front has a dura ace hub and unstamped rim and rear is a sovos hub and mavic rim (front has been balanced)
Cranks- shimano 600 but 2 different models and are differnent lengths 170 and 172.5
Gears - shimano 105 and suntour 2000 front derailer
As u can see with the parts its seems to have been thrown together with what they had lying around and the 2 different length cranks i dont know what to say
I am not looking to find out whats its worth i would just like to know what i am actually building and what parts u would keep or change
As u can see i am no photographer but i hope pics help
Thanks

Interesting looking frame. The down tube looks crimped, like Gilco tubing, but you reckon it's made of alloy? Do the drop outs have anything stamped on them?

Thanks for your response Morini
After reading your post i went around frame with a magnet and it was interesting.
Top tube- The entire length is alloy (magnet does not stick entire length)
Bottom tube-Is alloy but magnet sticks about 50mm from BB
Down tube- Is alloy but sticks 50mm from BB
Rear triangle-Magnet sticks everywhere (also is bolted at top of down tube)
Steerer tube- Magnet sticks but not sure as magnet maybe sticking to fork tube
Down tube is round and takes a 25.4 seatpost
The only stamping is under BB (M6-L 8599) I had the 6 down as 8 in previous post but looks more like a 6
Also has 2 different size wheels 27x1 1/4 rear and 700 front
Is it right for me to think this bike needs to run 700 wheels as rear drop out was packed about 3mm so the tyre didnt hit brakes???
Hope this helps with approx year and model
Also forks has a 95mm opening between drop out and rear is 125mm

So no markings on the drop outs? Like, Campagnolo or Columbus or Gipiemme or Shimano or Suntour or Technotrat or maybe the frame builders name? The dropouts are the half circle tips where the wheel slots in.
I don't know a lot about alloy frames apart from being told years ago that nearly all of them came out of Taiwan. Forget the stickers, it's the parts that have any value. If you wanted to part it out you'd have no problems selling most of the bits. The frame is the real conundrum. The only sticker which rings bells for me is the Campione one. Campione Cycles are in Newtown near Geelong and they have been selling their own "trade frame" bikes for decades. Maybe it's one of their attempts to sell an alloy framed bike. Might be worth a phone call to them and the West Australian bike shop on the down tube. These people sold them so they should know what it is.
Who ever put the bike together with miss matched parts has got sh*t for brains. I'd sell the odd bits and sort out the miss match issues or part the whole thing out. Easy to do with ebay.

Well i went to see old mate at Ideal cycles yesterday but he wasnt sure what it is but did think it was late 80s (nice bloke)
His offsider thought it may have been imported by Malvern Star
Anyway im going to build it up into a hack and have some fun on it.
As for the bloke that built it up having s--t for brains u may be right but we all did have a laugh about the different size cranks
Thanks for your imput Morini
Im in Perth if anyone wants to sell a 700 rear wheel or rim or set of rims to suit

You might say that but I don't know anyone that has exactly the same leg lengths, and some people have a larger variance than others. It's just that so few people know this and take it into account.mxmort wrote:

Maybe s++t for brains was actually smarter than us.

I thought of that as well. I was a rowing coach for more than a decade and nearly all of us have different length legs. But when you take into account all the other one off bits and pieces, wheels, brakes and mechs, I'd still say sh*t for brains. Nothing wrong with that though, some people can happily live by their decisions. It's just not me to use what ever I have lying around when bicycle parts are so cheap.

I am with u Morini
It was just thrown together with any parts they had like not one of the cable adjusters for the brakes even fitted right
Its still a mystery on what sort of frame it is and i ripped off the continental and ideal cycle stickers from top and down tube and there was stickers underneath before them but cant really work out the letters and words
Im not really going to do it much justice as im more or less doin the same as the last dude but hey its only going to be runner about pub bike ( i will post a photo when finished)
Anyway thanks for your input Morini
