We're in... Must have been the Campy grease. oops, shoulda cleaned that grot in the bottom lug. Wasn't until I 'saw' it on screen.

Just as an aside. What dimension is the seatpost of your Ricardo?

I picked one up the other day of another forum member. It to is made from Tange 900.

All my other Ricardo's, built from tange 2 & 5 and Ishiwata tubing, have used a 26.6, 26.8 and 27.0mm posts. This one is really small and I have none that will fit. I think it's a 26.0 or 26.2. It would interesting to hear what yours is.

Averaged measurements on the ALDI calipers... 26.8, I'd say.

Hmm.. OK. Why plastic? Seems odd.
Having trouble right now getting a 'thread' on the RHS left hand thread, to get the new sealed BB in. So close. . Surely it's the same thread... Certainly looks it. Have brushed/cleaned with toothbrush/INOX.
Back to the task...

The more expensive ones use an alloy wedge. However they do tend to creak. Another reason for the grease.

Where would the grease go though? Threads I did on my alloy one, but the contact point between the BB and wedge, I did not apply any grease.

Well, as I understood it, just to ease the threading process. As it was, with cleaning/brushing/wiping, (this one's been lying around gathering some spotty rust), I still did oscillating thread up, gaining a half or so turn each time. Whichever way, it seems to have worked.
I doubt it will be ready for Saturday though. Attempting rear cones/bearings this evening. Last hurdle. Ya never know.

Its already evening . You should be fine though, as long as there arent any issues with the rear hub stuff. Youll have more than enough time, as I managed to build all the Giant within a day.

Home straight, (I think). Rear's done, but in the search for axles/bearings, things got a little disorganised. Looks like I need to get some spacer(s) for the LHS. But I note there's a Corrimal Cycles, while wife is jabbing people.
There's hope for Saturday yet.

You didn't forget to put some bearings in? If your short one or two you will find the cones will screw in a little further leaving you with a little more axle length.

Thanks for everyone's help on this. Am sure Andy and Joe will post pics over in NSW>Sydney Retro Rides. High risk, but I wrapped it late last night and rode it. Just as well Sunho had the multi-tool to make some, ahem, adjustments.
Speaking of adjustments, have some slight play in the FW bearings, which am attending to now. But the Ricardo rides pretty sweetly. Great commuter, which is its destiny.

Creaking has started a bit esp on hard pedalling. Will go grease up the inside of the wedge. If that doesnt stop the creaking, then its the frame which may be breaking .

check over every nut, bolt and screw, quang. could be as simple as a loose chainring bolt.
