Charlie the Bikemonger

Postby rifraf » Tue Apr 23, 2013 11:27 pm

Anyone bought from Charlies site in the UK?
Any issues etc?
What sort of shipping time did it take to get to you?
Cheers :D

PS. I did a search and got two posts which were both positive being one delivered in 7 days and one in 4.
I was just wondering if anyones had a transaction recently :?:

I bought a few odds and sods from charlie about 12mths ago, and all went smooth, and very quick delivery (3days i think)

He is also on a few other forums im on, and he seems like a straight up and down bloke

Thanks landscapecadmonkey,
always nice to know others impressions.
I just pressed the button on some BBB XL Fuel Tank's
Currently thinking about some of his handlebars as a lot of UK post is much speedier than USA or Germany.
Appreciate your input. :)

Well, speedy communication on their part as well as speedy dispatch.
I'll report back on postage times for your future reference.
I'm happily impressed.
They carry the range of Jeff Jones H Loop bars for those of that persuasion.
I'm sure although almost the same price as the US, the postage would turn out to be much faster.

I bought a set of Titec J-Bars before they dropped off the market. I think they made them on licence from Jones, but at a fraction of the price.

I managed to grab a set of the same of ebay delivered for $22.35 including post.

I understand the Jones version is a little longer at the "paws" end which will make it easier for my grip shifter fitment with the grips I fancy.
Once my bike build is complete, I'll have a clearer indication of whether I like the "cockpit" set up enough with the dimensions of the J-bar to spend the dosh on the Jones Loop Bar.

That was a bargain, mine were new and quite a bit more than that.

Only issue is that they don't work that well when paired with 9speed Shimano XT levers and shifters. I can still reach the underbar thumb shifters, but its not terribly ergonomic. They are on a Surly Big Dummy so speed, ergonomics and agility aren't really tested.

Only 9 days? Patience grasshopper.

If there are delays, they're more likely to lay with getting customs clearance than with AP delivery.

This ^^^^^^

My wife's 40th b'day card to me was dispatched in AUS from hallmark cards on the 8th April, 25th April it arrived (late), appalling.
And with my online purchases all urgency and tracking cease's upon arrival at our shores...

Yeah thats the other possibility but the delays seem to be getting worse all the time over here.
I'd have expected it much quicker over on the East Coast.
My SJS parcel was ordered the day after and got here Friday after languishing somewhere this side of Australian shores. Amazing how something can get all the way from Pommieland within a couple of days of it being posted to Australia, but our inspection/delivery seems so slow. :?
Ah well, wheels should be finished on Friday and I should have managed to get my frame to a shop to have them fit the headset at their convenience (which seems to be the only way things get done around here).
I dont do patience very well as I've demonstrated on many an occasion but at least the end goal is now in sight.

Cheesy chatup lines aside......
If you all heard something that sounded like a large puncture, it was just my sigh of relief as my BBB XL Fueltanks arrived safely at long last today.
I'd given up on them and was going to send an email to Charlie over the weekend but now can lay my finger down to rest.
Alls well that ends well.
