Definitely 531 then. See my response in the "you beauty" thread.

No, it was on a pile of scrap metal at the demolition salvage place in a back street off La Trobe St (near the brake factory that pays my bills ;-) ).

The boss man had absolutely no idea that it was anything other than an old department store BSO...

... and as per my latest post in the "you beauty" thread... seemingly not 531. Tube sizes suggest that it's a (rather high spec) French frame hiding under Hillman stickers!

Definitely an oddball. Still not entirely sure what to do with it :?

Looks good enough Tim, surely you can do something with it if it fits you.

Put some MTB-OZ stickers on it

Good find today, a Scott AFD 501 road bike. Tange Prestige tubing with Ritchey dropouts, full 1992 Shimano 105 group, an interesting looking seatpost and Scott Drop-In bars. Fairly rough shape but should clean up alright, and my size too :) .

Too dark for my crummy phone camera to work :? . Dug it out of a scrap metal pile, I did say it was fairly rough :) . Haven't given it a proper going over yet but it definitely has plenty of scratches and a few bits of rust. The forks were originally full chrome but they are now mostly light brown. Should be able to get pics up in the morning.

Oh and no wheels or pedals.

I spotted two sorely neglected bicycles sitting in the laneway out the back of my house this morning. I rolled over for a look, the first was a Repco Traveller and the second had whacky fluoro green deep v's that had been ridden on and trashed, but the frame caught my eye. I pulled it out for a closer look, and here is what I found!

A fully chromed frame, forged dropouts, nice cutout lugs. Cutaways under the bottom bracket, in straight condition with surface rust.
Suntour Superbe cranks and Suntour downtube shifters (? possibly later era)
Zeus set pin
3TTT Stem

And the other parts are unoriginal.
I'll probably strip it down, clean it up and offer it as a frame w/stem on the marketplace, as it's too small for me and I have a few projects going. It's a lovely frame that deserves the works.
Anybody recognise anything and want to take a stab at what it is? I'm unsure if the full chrome is original, or if it the paint has been stripped by "green deep v's".

It does look good! What's the weight of that thing? And size, may be interested.

Weight be damned.

It's steel for God's sake.

All I want to know is that it's at least a 23".

Woah, STI 105s as well! Makes me feel like I got ripped for buying the older 105 stuff.

To date, I have only found 1 bike. Some crappy gas pipe Albion Cycles roadie.

Interesting that it has eyelets for mudguards and brake bridge and stay bridge attachment points too. Quite uncommon and a nice looking find.

THat chrome number is nice and as others have said, the guard mounts are a very nice touch.

All I've managed to find was a smashed carbon Avanti.

I know. I really like the look as well. But since I don't have any other original parts. I am considering going a modern 10 speed groupset like the Campagnolo Veloce and putting on some mavic open pro rims.

The tubs need some work. They have an 8 speed freewheel. They still have a metric crap load of glue dumped into the spoke holes after spending hours rubbing it down with acetone. There are also a few eyelets loose.

The neighbour was going to throw this out so my dad offered to save him the trouble and took it off him for free. Cro-Mo Apollo, Exage 300 cranks and chain wheel, Exage hubs, Mavic front rim, Exage 300 FD, RSX RD, interesting braze ons on the head tube for the Microshift cables.
To me, it looks mid-90's. I am guessing it is a triathlon bike.

Age sounds about right, one weird shifter setup though!

Whacky old bullhorns. Look more like horns of an old feral goat, with no ruttin competition.

Those were all the go with the tri and time-trial crowd before brifters came on the scene, along with Allsop beam bikes, oval chainrings and extremely long cranks etc etc

I remember them from the early 90's. They looked so cool back then. Not so much now. :?
