I wondered the same thing, then I watched the video and all was revealed. He starts with it resting against a wall, then he climbs up and pushes off, and from that point there is no stopping until he gets to the end. At the end he stops next to a pole, leans against it then climbs down. You can see he has a gopro strapped to his chest, I'll see if I can find the video.

This notion of fantastic protection abilities of a helmet is almost unique to this country.

A fall is going to be bad regardless of a helmet. A fall striking the head is likely to be severe regardless of a helmet. It is far better not to fall in the first place! In the even of a fall protecting your head with your limbs is FAR preferable to a helmet.

Helmets are not very good protection.

A fall is going to be bad regardless of a helmet. A fall striking the head is likely to be severe regardless of a helmet. It is far better not to fall in the first place! In the even of a fall protecting your head with your limbs is FAR preferable to a helmet.

Here was I pitching myself head-first at the ground during a fall because I thought the helmet would be the best point for first impact. Come to think of it, it does give me a headache and sore neck after, I think you're onto something...
