Italian Frame Fixie - Bottom Bracket length

Postby Killswitch » Fri May 03, 2013 4:39 pm

Hi guys,

I am trying to find a solution for my Fixie build. I have a Italian Bianchi using the 70mm Italian BB. The shortest length I can find is 107, but ideally I need 103 to use the LASCO Track Fixie Road Bike Crank Crankset 165mm 46T.

The only option I can see is to fit the Shimano 70-107 UN55 Square Taper Bottom Bracket and Crank above, then fit some 2mm spacers to my Flip Flop wheel if that works?

Any other ideas? :)

Short version: you're gonna need an Italian BB. Italian BB's are threaded differently. That one won't even go in. I can't be more helpful till I'm home tomorrow and can search a bit more.

Edit: oh, and, you might get a longer one, and run the chainring on the INNER face of the tabs with successful chainline.

Dang...5pm reading eyes...sorry!

It will fit in the frame, but I still stand by the chainring statement. Rather than source a 102 BB. Adding spacers to the wheel won't fix a chain line issue without it going too far off centre.

Dont use garbage lasco cranks.

Get some Miche cranks & BB. Yes they are dearer, but matching cranks and BB will give you a good chainline.

Alternatively you can get a nice Stronglight track crankset from Ribble for $100

http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/sp/road-t ... trochat300

It will bolt straight onto your 107mm JIS bottom bracket and your chainline will be perfect. Plus you won't have to deal with cups loosening on the Miche bottom bracket. A bad habit they have.

Thanks for your help guys. So my setup above wont work?

The build is already heading towards $350. Not trying to sound cheap but was hoping to build it for under $300. With 100 crank its getting into low $400s. :P

But, if its the only option, its what I will have to do.

It'll work, try the chainring flip trick. That Lasco may last a long time, thereby offending purists 8)
