TCR advanced owners: where to mount rear light?

Postby jeff_o » Fri May 03, 2013 2:59 pm

Hi fellow TCR advanced owners, or any wedge shaped aero seatpost road bike owners: where do you mount the rear safety led lights? i've been figuring this for days. mine is the traditional cateye rear led light that has the round seatpost mount, but our seatposts are aero shaped.

I Don't use those types. One is a moon light with a bungy the other a Magicshine also with a Bungy. I use my cat eye and clip it top my Jersey but always have one or two mounted to the bike as well

Go ask for the rear red reflector that comes with the bike, but is rarely supplied to customers and use that.

Have you tried seat stay? Or the back of your helmet?

That's where I put my wife's light.

Other alternative is to get Knog lights.

unfortunately i only have a seat post mount for the cateye and i got the bike used so no reflectors. i checked the seat stay and it's triangular shaped (like an aerodynamic blade). i guess i have to just get the silicon ones OR do a DIY to mount the cateye under the seat. that would look cool!

I'm hoping this type of bracket will fit on mine once I pick it up, but may be a little short... I'll let you know.

I use cateye but had to buy one of their aftermarket brackets which fit my TCR post.

Edit: Here is the link http://www.this link is broken/cateye-rear-light-clamp/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; . It is flexible enough to mould the TCR aero post.

Works a treat - it is probably quite similar to the cateye one mentioned above. The light is a Tioga Dual Eyes which came with this type of mount.

I've a bike with similar aero profile seatpost. I fixed this with a Cateye RM-1 clamp. Goes onto the saddle rails, and tucks your light under the saddle - very neat.............

I use a Nite Flux red zone 4. I clip it on the back of my jersey.

Note to cyclists riding in bunches using rear lights : please put em on solid mode vs flash mode.

If you are using a fizik seat, you can purchase a light that clips onto the seat.

As a TCR owner the light issue has been a bit of a sore spot for me after losing a Radbot where the strap broke and the knog blinder type lights with clasp simple don't fit. The silicon only strap light are ok, though these are lower powered lights.

I have just gone for a moon light which seems to be well rated, better suited to aero posts with the chunky rubber strap. WIth my saddle bag I can't fit a light there and have lost too may lights mounted in the light strap.

Previously I had a great helmet upon which I had a light mounted, it fit perfectly in the rear and I felt was a good solution.

I've got a Moon light on my TCR Advanced SL - it does have a mount for the saddle rails, but with the saddle bag there, that makes it pointless. So you have the rubber strap that IMO doesn't seem too trustworthy.

You could get the Giant rear reflector (designed for the ISP type TCR bikes) and use the clip it comes with to mount a standard light. Just screw the light mount onto it. I did that with a Bontrager rear flashing light. But it is not very bright.

Cables ties are the easiest way to go and works most of the time.

Otherwise, the Moon lights are good for ISP.

Standard Giant mount (came with the rear reflector) plus Radbot 1000. Works a treat!
