Chainring & disk straightening tool

There are actual tools for straightening chainrings & disks like this one made by Cyclo but I've always used just a shifting spanner - the biggest one that will fit because it will be wider as well as longer and have more area to spread the force and not cause more crinkling. Do any of you use the specific tool for a good reason?
