Forum Updates to the Market Place

Postby AUbicycles » Mon Apr 15, 2013 12:22 am

The Market Place has been moved and expanded.

It now gets its own section and as requested many times - finally we are splitting Sales and the Want To Buy.

Member to Member Bike and Gear Sales is the WTS section. We no longer need WTS, so simply will use this format for the title:
[location] Item Description

Otherwise everything remains, including the limit for new members (min 7 days AND 10 posts).

Want to Buy, Group Buy, Swap is now the WTB section - though WTB is not needed however for the odd Group Buy and Swap, we ask that GROUP BUY or SWAP is used in the title before the [location] and item description.

In trialing this, newbies may post though we will look out for abuse

My Bikes or Gear Elsewhere is a good one for gear that you have on other classifieds or platforms. You can let your fellow BNA members know, perhaps they wont get such a good deal as in the Member to Member Sales section, but they will know.

In the section you can link to ebay, gumtree or other legitimate sites however you NEED to include a description, a link alone is not sufficient. In this section, the member restrictions apply with min. 7 days AND 10 posts before someone is allowed to participate - obviously commercial members can't use it to plug their businesses or ebay sales.

Commercial Sales and Offers is not yet open though will have registered business (not spammers) being able to share their sales, discounts and promotions for BNA members. It will be on trial as we discover the best approach and until it is up and running will be locked. It won't be for members to create new topics (unless they representent a business and have registered).

----

I welcome any feedback here, perhaps you spot an issue or have a great suggestion to make these even better.

Thanks to the moderater team for supporting and developing an approach - we tend not to rush in rather try to think these through so that they work in the interests of the community. Also, thank you to members who have provided feedbck over the years and in recent discussions.

Possibly this is just me but on the first of the four new market place sections I have normal access, on the last three I get the message "You do not have the required permissions to read topics within this forum.". Hmmm.

I can read the first one, but the other 3 I've got no access to. Not really much of a problem as I don't use the market place.

Fantastic additions. Good work and Congratulations!

Especially like the section for forum members outing their own eBay auctions.

Perhaps ads in the Market Place should be cleaned up after a month or so... currently there are 200+ pages of out-of-date ads.

Not something I fancy doing considering there are no fees.

The advantage of old content is that other people can find it via google.

Yeah I don't see the point of cleaning up ads, it's pretty obvious that you can't go more than a few pages back without availability being sketchy. Just use your internal brain commonsense filter thingo.

Plus Chris would get traffic from all those pages and stronger SEO, so yeah, no point.
