The Expert Opinion Thread

Postby Dan » Wed May 08, 2013 5:52 am

This is the thread in which all experts - recognised, Internet or otherwise - can post their irrelevant responses to questions asked by members. That way, the thread responses can be contained to helpful, meaningful information.

For example:

Q: Which flat bar bike should I buy?
A: Buy a drop bar road bike - I had a flat bat but switched to drops and its heaps better.

Go. Hopefully we can get to 16 pages soon.

Should we all post grammar and spelling corrections here? It's important to point out any transgressions, regardless of the fact that everyone understood the poster's meaning.

- In you're example answer "its" should be "it's"

;) I'd be more concerned with trying to ride a flat bat, myself.

hehe '16 pages' is BNA speak for over 9000 :) .

Q: I found an old steel road bike, is it valuable?

A: yes, you should put it on ebay with a starting price of eleventy hundred dollars and don't listen to anyone who tells you Roadmaster aren't a good brand, they are just trying to rip you off.

Q: What is an expert?
A: An "ex" is a has-been. A "spurt" is a drip under pressure. So an "expert" is a has-been drip under pressure.

16 pages? Didn't the recent strava frenzy establish a new benchmark?

Tyre inflation expert: Unless your tube has a puncture, a bicycle pump, in good working condition, will inflate a flat tyre. The tube's valve will also need to be in good working condition. As to whether the tyre will achieve proper working pressure will depend on the maximum output of the pump used and the strength of the pumper.

In my expert opinion, if you're not achieving inflation and the conditions set out above are in order, give bicycle ownership away.

FWIW, I have "it's" autocorrected to "its" on iPhone to avoid annoying possessive pronoun typos. No excuse though, granted.

Q: Hi, I'm a newbie. What's the best new bike, X, Y or Z? Budget is $500. It has to be fast, light, be able to handle the odd fire trail, carry panniers for commuting and look good at the coffee shop.
A: Start saving for n+1

Disclaimer: I commute on a flat bar, although I do also have a proper road bike.

Q: Why do some people on this forum get so upset?
A: It's the Internet.

Ah, Dayne, you're missing the point!

By containing all the carp to one tongue in cheek thread, it frees up the rest of the forum for quality retro gear.

Anyway, what would the Internet be without irrelevance and poor grammar in every post?

Feels good to have a rant though, doesn't it? Go on, admit it, you kinda liked it... ;)
