No, it was on a pile of scrap metal at the demolition salvage place in a back street off La Trobe St (near the brake factory that pays my bills ).landscapecadmonkey wrote:Tim, you prob mentioned earlier on, but where did you pick it up from ? The boss man had absolutely no idea that it was anything other than an old department store BSO...

... and as per my latest post in the "you beauty" thread... seemingly not 531. Tube sizes suggest that it's a (rather high spec) French frame hiding under Hillman stickers!singlespeedscott wrote:Definitely 531 then. See my response in the "you beauty" thread.
Definitely an oddball. Still not entirely sure what to do with it

I call BS without any daguerreotypes!ldrcycles wrote:.... a Scott AFD 501 road bike. Tange Prestige tubing with Ritchey dropouts, full 1992 Shimano 105 group, an interesting looking seatpost and Scott Drop-In bars. Fairly rough shape but should clean up alright, and my size too...

A fully chromed frame, forged dropouts, nice cutout lugs. Cutaways under the bottom bracket, in straight condition with surface rust.
Suntour Superbe cranks and Suntour downtube shifters (? possibly later era)
Zeus set pin
3TTT Stem
And the other parts are unoriginal.
I'll probably strip it down, clean it up and offer it as a frame w/stem on the marketplace, as it's too small for me and I have a few projects going. It's a lovely frame that deserves the works.
Anybody recognise anything and want to take a stab at what it is? I'm unsure if the full chrome is original, or if it the paint has been stripped by "green deep v's".

Weight be damned.
It's steel for God's sake.
All I want to know is that it's at least a 23".

Interesting that it has eyelets for mudguards and brake bridge and stay bridge attachment points too. Quite uncommon and a nice looking find.LugNut wrote: A fully chromed frame, forged dropouts, nice cutout lugs. Cutaways under the bottom bracket, in straight condition with surface rust.

All I've managed to find was a smashed carbon Avanti.

The tubs need some work. They have an 8 speed freewheel. They still have a metric crap load of glue dumped into the spoke holes after spending hours rubbing it down with acetone. There are also a few eyelets loose.

To me, it looks mid-90's. I am guessing it is a triathlon bike.

Those were all the go with the tri and time-trial crowd before brifters came on the scene, along with Allsop beam bikes, oval chainrings and extremely long cranks etc etcldrcycles wrote:Age sounds about right, one weird shifter setup though!
